While many of Billie and Finneas' strengths remain intact, Happier Than Ever is a much less cohesive listen than When We All Fall Asleep.

Melon just dropped the most negatively-worded 7 I've ever seen in my life.

Billie and the King Crimson album are both admiring Melon’s shiny dome

From this perspective it looks like Billie is admiring the back of melons head.

No Melon you can’t give her a 0 because she is happier than you.

Melon after he orders food: "The lettuce was droopy, the pickles had a hint of sensual spice and dazzling dill I guess but lacked any true vinegary oomph... the cheese was basically glue, and I found the meat was flabby and overall just... just dull. Solid cheeseburger: 7/10!"

I'll be honest, I actually love how Happier Than Ever (the track) started out soft and ended super aggressive and alternative.

He didn't talk much about the songs he did like, only what he didn't like. I think that's why it seemed he would give it a lower score. Most of the negative things he said were about how cohesive the album was, but he liked most of the actual songs. I agree that it's a 7. I really enjoyed most of the tracks.

I actually enjoyed this record more than the first. The instrumentation and production is more laid back, giving more space to Billie's vocals, lyrical themes are more mature

I disagree with NDA being the worst, but I'm glad the title track is one of the highlights. Also Welcome back Cal Chuchesta!

Woah. I think this is such a move forward for Billie as a performer+songwriter. Way more mature and eclectic than WWAFAWDWG. Maybe there are less mainstream radio pop hits on this one, but Billie as an ARTIST has grown up in a good way. Also, NDA is awesome.

i really fucking wish he mentioned the lyrics of not my responsibility and overheated directly contradicting eachother because it’s a beautiful showcase of irony and blatant hypocrisy

I actually liked the choppy, distorted, annoying thing at the end of "I Didn't Change my Number". It reminds me of a phone vibrating incessantly on a table or something and I thought it was a great fit for the theme of the song. Definitely a rough transition from track 1 to track 2, though.

One thing I really enjoyed about my first listening experience to this was that I thought "happier than ever" was the final song, because "male fantasy" hadn't loaded. It felt like a triumphant, if not jaded conclusion to all of the pain she exposes in this record, that she had finished her growth, her trauma, her healing, etc. "male fantasy" loaded maybe half a minute later, and I loved it as an ending. Really felt like we were back to the start, going in circles, with Billie going back to the things that caused her so much pain in the first place. Just shows how hard it is to get over your past. I agree that most of the albums a little disorganised, but I personally loved this structural moment. Good review Melon!

Damn coming from someone who was not really interested in Billie's music prior to this I actually think this is a really cohesive, excellent album. Both sound-wise and thematically it carries a consistent tone, and feels like a major step up in terms of maturity in concept and performance. I also find your critique of songs like Billie Bossanova kind of strange. It's a pretty sounding song, well-produced, well-performed. Sure, it pretty much delivers exactly what's promised, but it does so in a way that's distinctive to her, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Only weak songs are NDA and Goldwing honestly. I think you're under-rating this but hey to each their own
