RSL National President Greg Melick says a decision by the government to allow public servants to swap the Anzac Day public holiday is “disrespectful”.
Australians paused to honour our servicemen and women for Anzac Day at dawn services around the country.
Under policy changes put in place by the Albanese government in January last year, all employees of the Commonwealth are permitted to request substitution of Australia’s National Day of Remembrance in exchange for their chosen day of paid time off.
“We have got to remember that some public servants will have to work on Anzac Day and therefore will have days off in lieu,” Mr Melick told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“My view has always been that when there is a public holiday, you either take it or you lose it.”
