Emmy, use your ham bones to make white beans. Serve with cornbread and greens. Ham bones make the best beans.

Thank you for your continued advice and wisdom! I noticed recently some other ā€˜frugalā€™ channels have become very repetitive just to churn out content. Just wanted to say I genuinely appreciate the time and effort you both apply to delivering genuinely enjoyable and varied content!

It's nice to have friends and family who think and shop frugally. So thoughtful of your neighbor to pick up that ham bargain for you!

Tho this is not actual food but it is food related. I dropped into Walmart to pay my charge and right at the entrance of the store was a 1 day sale. It was a set of knives. I needed new knives in my kitchen. This set includes 3x essential kitchen knives (paring knife, utility knife, and santoku knife) with 3x protective sheaths and 2x safe non-slip flexible cutting mats. The knife blades are made from durable stainless steel with ergnomic handles for easy slicing and dicing.I looked up all the reviews on them that I could find, and most of them were very positive. I decided to buy them. The original price was 12.99 and I bought them for 3.00. That was a 9.00 savings.

I found a huge bag of bananas that were ripening fast for $1. I brought them home, sliced them and froze them in a single layer on cookie sheets. Once frozen, I put them in freezer bags. I use them for oatmeal, baking and smoothies. My dogs love them frozen for a refreshing treat.

You little home in SC is so beautiful. How sweet that it was your parentsā€™ Ms. Emmy. That chowder you made looked so delicious! A good grocery deal (I thought) was 18 large eggs at Walmart for $3.82. I make all kinds of dinners w/eggs; fried rice, quiche, and of course breakfast for dinner. Have a blessed week.ā¤

I was inspired last week to save $ and not got to store unless I REALY needed something...here's what I used up... Pineapple slices with cottage cheese, Pineapple pancakes with banana foster over the top...canned chili beans, zucchini, onion, red peppers ,corn and fresh tomato, and cheese chili with biscuits...it was so good and what leftovers...all things I had and needed to use up. I call this my Intellectual cooking.

We recently discovered a bakery outlet near us that offers wonderful brands of baked goods at a fraction of the original price. they even have a "free" cart each week. We have been visiting once a week, and trying out some new items such as Boboli pizza crusts, spinach tortilllas, and other sandwich bases that we would never buy at full expensive price. It is helping us with variety in our menu.

The pro painter told me to go to home Depot and pick a color and buy the 5 gallon bucket of paint and use for all rooms in the house. When closing down for the day put roller in a plastic bag and put in the refrigerator. It will keep for a very long time. I kept in my second refrigerator in the basement. When ready for the next room to paint, I just got out of the refrigerator.

Our house painted all in same colours - white for ceilings, Dulux ivory lace on the walls. So much easier for touch ups and expense as one tub of paint does everything so no left over bits taking up,space etc. Colour is easily added from furnishing, decor etc.

We found loaves of French bread marked down to $0.33 a loaf. We bought 5 and tossed them in the freezer.

Neighbor thinking about neighbor. That's a true blessing. And that price was AMAZING! Glad you enjoyed your getaway in your cozy vacation home.

Hi Emmy and Paul, What a friend you have to think of sharing a quality ham for $2.07. I estimated the savings to be about $53.00 after the cost of the ham. Just 2 weeks ago, our market had bags of little snack carrots for $ .25 per bag. I bought them for a friend whose children like them in lunchboxes. Your example has made me more aware of the need to look carefully for special signs and price stickers in several departments of the market. Thank you for sharing your good fortune with us. Blessings to you and yours, always.

We can save so much money if we just go longer between trips to the grocery store. And if we buy larger amounts and work them up and freeze them in meal-sized portions. I live alone and seldom drink milk anymore. But i do cook and bake a lot with it and use it in my coffee and give the kitties a saucer occasionally! I buy 2 or 3 gallons of whole milk when it's one sale and freeze it in quart glass Mason jars. Be sure to leave a little room at the top for expansion. That way I have good supply of fresh, inexpensive milk and don't worry about it spoiling before i use it up. Glad you had a good week in your little house and paced yourself. šŸŽ‰

I said that, too. Buy the family package of meat, break it up into single portions and freeze. Thick chicken thighs or breast? Filet it.basically butterfly it,but you make two out of one. Double the product, half the price

I haven't grocery shopped since before the eclipse and then was only milk, bread and eggs. I have a lot of things to use up before they expire. And now I am starting to get produce out of the garden :)

My Mama always used the left over ham bone to cook with Lima beans aka dollar beans. Another recipe was rice and tomatoā€™s cooked with the ham bone. So good.
