When the first IR missile was sent at him, Drew turned on his LWIRCM system, which is basically high-tech IR laser that blinds the missile's sensor, rather than dumping burning flares as a decoy. However, in RHS the LWIRCM continues to deploy until it either is discharged and recharges (runs out of ammo and reloads) or you turn it off.
When the second pair of missiles came his way, his LWIRCM was recharging, leaving him unable to spoof the incoming missiles. When a missile threat is detected, hit C to activate the LWIRCM. When it is defeated, hit Ctrl-C to turn it off and leave it ready to be activated again.
