I would pay real money to see a 1940s scientist say "WTF, Those guys are seriously hooked" just to say I've seen it

I read a book a while ago called A Long Way Gone, which is the memoir of a child soldier in Sierra Leoneâs civil war in the 90âs. The author wrote about how, after being recruited by the government as a child soldier, he was given a stimulant drug that kept him awake not only for around 1 1/2 days, but that also seemed to dull his emotional response: he saw one of his closest friends, who he had I believe grown up with and spent months with trying to survive, torn to shreds during a battle and felt virtually nothing. This probably isnât very different from what the Allies or the Axis powers did in WW2, but itâs still horrifying to read a firsthand account of it, especially one coming from someone who experienced it at the age of I think 15 or so.

Iâve suffered with chronic insomnia since I was a kid and of course Iâve never eaten myself. The most I havenât slept is 5 days where then my family took me to the ER and I was forced to sleep.
Those kids or people in the comments saying theyâve stayed awake weeks or 11 days are definitely lying. After those five days I felt so weak and my mind barely processed anything. I assure you that if you were truly awake that long youâd need to seek medical attention or a family member would be concerned enough to force you to go.

I donât think his writing was bad. I actually think itâs really good. Yea they made some obvious mistakes, that when reading analytically disapprove the whole story.
In spite of all that the story is incredibly successful. That shows that the author conveyed the tones and emotions so well that people didnât notice the analytical mistakes.
