The Russian Sleep Experiment is one of the most famous and horrific experiments gone wrong, but some people claim the experiment never happened! Today we're going to find out. In the 40's Russian scientists are said to have made a stimulant that could keep someone awake for days. This would be useful for soldier in war, so the tests began. They pumped the stimulant gas into a room of volunteers for the experiment, and yes they did stay awake, but what happened next is the most insane and shocking thing the scientists have ever witnessed.

My record is 5 days no sleep. I started working night shift as a CNA and had terrible anxiety as well. After my fifth shift, I bought sleeping pills because I couldn't take it anymore. I'd rather go that long without food than without sleep.

I would pay real money to see a 1940s scientist say "WTF, Those guys are seriously hooked" just to say I've seen it

I read a book a while ago called A Long Way Gone, which is the memoir of a child soldier in Sierra Leone’s civil war in the 90’s. The author wrote about how, after being recruited by the government as a child soldier, he was given a stimulant drug that kept him awake not only for around 1 1/2 days, but that also seemed to dull his emotional response: he saw one of his closest friends, who he had I believe grown up with and spent months with trying to survive, torn to shreds during a battle and felt virtually nothing. This probably isn’t very different from what the Allies or the Axis powers did in WW2, but it’s still horrifying to read a firsthand account of it, especially one coming from someone who experienced it at the age of I think 15 or so.

As someone with severe and chronic insomnia:
I assure you I have never wanted to eat my own organs, but a lot of the time where I’ve forgotten to take my meds or missed that I stayed up one night I WILL spend the rest of the day feeling like my insides are rioting against me.

The monolog at the end gives it away completely. The story absolutely could not have been written by anyone older than 15.

I’ve suffered with chronic insomnia since I was a kid and of course I’ve never eaten myself. The most I haven’t slept is 5 days where then my family took me to the ER and I was forced to sleep.
Those kids or people in the comments saying they’ve stayed awake weeks or 11 days are definitely lying. After those five days I felt so weak and my mind barely processed anything. I assure you that if you were truly awake that long you’d need to seek medical attention or a family member would be concerned enough to force you to go.

I don’t think his writing was bad. I actually think it’s really good. Yea they made some obvious mistakes, that when reading analytically disapprove the whole story.

In spite of all that the story is incredibly successful. That shows that the author conveyed the tones and emotions so well that people didn’t notice the analytical mistakes.

This one is a certified hood classic. If y'all weren't traumatized by this growing up, we cannot associate.
