In this video I make an astrolabe out of steel and brass. There would be some sawing, cutting, engraving and having some fun with the device making all sorts of measurements.
This is a follow up video the the introduction and design video:    • What is an Astrolabe - Introduction a...

Hey everyone! some people pointed out that I forgot to take the timezone under consideration, and they are totally correct. So I've check the solar accurate time and it turns out the timezone is about 20 minutes ahead of the sun in my area (12:19 instead of 12:00 for E.g.), so we actually got a much more accurate measurement than I though :)

Alex Steele: Turn a simple knife into like 8 videos. Uri Techman: Turn a complex Astrolabe, AND a complex leg powdered scroll saw into 1 Video.. This man appreciates the art.

The is funny. Just before you collapsed I was thinking "how can he do all that work, manually?" Excellent CNC scroll saw.

I love how he just assembled a scroll saw, like he has the pieces laying around and finally decided to put them together

There are so many modern options and tools Uri could use but he CHOOSES not to use them. Power tools for cutting and sanding but he opted hand tools and making a pedal powered jig saw. Laser engraver for doing all the intricate marking but he opted for hand engraving. Old school craftmanship demonstrating his artisan nature in every piece. This is why I love his videos. That, and his accent just adds something special.

A post by Uri always makes me smile :) Love the honesty of "The moment of truth....well the moment of truth for you as I already assembled this, like, 50 gazillion times"

Incredible! It has taken me 6 years of study to build the skills necessary to make one myself. Just looking for tips and tricks in order to avoid costly mistakes. Thank you so very much, I salute you!

dude, that sew/saw conversion is worthy of a video all by itself. also, welding the engraving on was rad. you've definitely "leveled up." awesome work as usual...thank you.

Oh snap! You got a new vise! I just finished my own hand made mallet and graver based on your videos, and started building a rotating vise from scratch so I can actually try the darn thing out. Keep inspiring, thanks for sharing your build. EDIT: I have made my own cutting fluid for drilling through steel using dish detergent, some water, and some strong oil. Shake it together and the soap will emulsify the oil into the water for lubrication and cooling properties.

Incredible work!! Well done indeed on creating both that superb scroll saw (very unexpected!) and the amazing Astrolabe. Your skills, creativity and humour is setting you very highly in my (and no doubt many others) opinions.
