I'm going to save some people having to look it up because this confused me: Yorgos Lamprinos: Edited The Father Yorgos Lanthimos: Directed The Favourite

Bohemian Rhapsody's best editing oscar shows us that the acadamy doesn't have a scooby doo about editing.

When will a documentary ever be nominated (if it's even eligible)? Docs should 100% deserve recognition for its editing. Nomadland is close to a docustyle.

So you’re telling me, editing is just a giant temporal pincer movement?

I cannot believe I'm Thinking of Ending Things didn't get a nom, it's actually ridiculous.

I would pick The Father, but all of these would be good winners imo. Sound of Metal is actually the frontrunner as of today, it won the BAFTA.

The Father had some of the most unique editing I’ve seen in years. I know it isn’t the most popular nominee but it honestly deserves to win

Sound of metal and The father are the best in editing in my opinion

GREAT video, so detailed and informative. My personal pick would be The Father - that whole scene you discussed was so emotional when watching the movie and the editing does a great job of conveying the confusion Anthony is suffering.

these films feel like they're from some other timeline... it's wild how hard i fell out of the loop as a moviegoer because of the pandemic

Truth is, all the nominees are finely edited, but I'm Thinking of Ending Things is the movie that was edited with the most purpose behind it, and it's sad that the Academy didn't even see it, even though it has superb editing, writing, make-up and even cinematography, could've been nominated for a few things but got none. I guess they didn't watch it.

Of all of these nominees, the Father is where I felt the editing being most alive and part of how consistently shaken I was by the story. But it will probably go to Nomadland or the Sound of Metal.

I am not an editor so my oppinion might be amateristic but I loved the editing of The Trial of the Chicago 7 just by the fact that its a heavily dialogue based movie and I think a movie like that would easily bore an audience if it didnt have fantastic editing. Thanks to the reaction shots and jump cuts mentioned in the video the movie never bored me neither emotionaly nor storywise. Thats why I would love to see The Trial of The Chicago 7 win an oscar for best editing.

What a treat! I hope you will make an extended spoiler version for your two favourites at some time. Question: Was there a movie this year that you think should have received a nomination for Best Editing that didn't?

@PretentiousStuff

they just going to go for most cocaine induced most-cuts-per-minute editing as always, and that's the Trial movie.
