For me the whole song hangs on that moment in the bridge when the CAF loop from the chorus suddenly has a G added. I remember sitting at home decades ago when the album came out listening to One, and although I'd heard the song several times before that surprise switch to G unexpectedly moved me to tears. I've always guessed it was maybe a resolving chord that hadn't been used in the song up to that point, but that isn't the case from your analysis: G is in the verse. So why does it have such impact? All I can think is that the chorus CAF is emphasised several times before the G is added...?
