Denmark: provoking the limits of tolerance

For decades Denmark has been a symbol of the Scandinavian model and has prided itself on its high standard of living, its excellent social welfare system and its open-mindedness towards minorities (particularly foreign communities). In 2019, the UN declared Denmark the happiest country in the world.

However, in the last couple of decades cracks have begun to appear in the Utopian model. The wave of immigrants arriving from the Middle East has stirred tensions. The state tracks down illegal migrants, men, women and children, and confines them to detention centers. The country’s latest project in dealing with arrivals has been to place them on an island.

Between a model of tolerance and an identity crisis, is Denmark becoming a nation of two minds?

Imagine the arrogance and entitlement to move into someone's home and demand that they change for you.

I just don't get how you could move to a place like Denmark and not want to assimilate to their lifestyle. It's incredible

The question is "why not migrate to one of the 51 Muslim countries " It just makes sense.

I was an immigrant from Iran to the United States. I have fully integrated and consider myself American. Don’t immigrate if you don’t intend on assimilating. If you want to keep your culture stay in your homeland and fight for change. Don’t go to another country and try to change them. I am 100% WITH DENMARK on this one!

I’m with Denmark. I’m sick of people trying to change other countries when they move there.

And stop conflating Islam with race. Race is not a choice. Religion is. The gentleman is not attacking an immutable characteristic they were born with and cannot control, he’s criticizing a set of IDEAS he disagrees with. That’s democracy. Defend THAT.

I am from a muslim country and I am with Denmark on this matter. If you come to a new country, not only you need to tolerate the country's laws values and culture, but accept them. Why do you immigrate if you want to recreate the same shithole you are escaping from? Either you respect the law or leave.

I really don't understand this western obsession with prioritising immigrants and their cultures over our own.

If a European woman visits Saudi Arabia, she will respect the Saudi/Muslim culture & cover up. Why's it so hard to expect refugees who have been given asylum in Denmark to respect & uphold Danish cultural norms? As an Iranian immigrant to a European country, I absolutely will integrate & respect the amazingly generous country I reside in.

If their culture could build something of value why did they immigrate to a rich functional country?

First rule as an immigrant: adapt to the culture of your new country. Not the other way around.

I am also one of the immigrant before in Japan. Having live here for about 42yrs.15 yrs ago I decided to renounce my filipino citizenship and became Japanese. I love this Country so much. I never had any problem living here except the language but I do speak Japanese language. I studied a year, got passed my 3rd degree Japanese language proliferation Exam. I am now in my 63 yrs. A senior.have 2 grown up children and 2 grand children. I told my husband that if my time came, please just cremate me and my ashes will send spread in the mountain in Japan. I love my Adopted Country ❤️❤️❤️🙏
