• In Wonder - Kevin Lim (Stellar X3 mic... For comparison with the Stellar X3, this is the raw audio from my iPhone 11 that was taking the video. Zero post-processing applied (no noise removal, EQ, compression, reverb, effects, etc); the only thing I did was increase the volume to match YouTube loudness standards and allow a fair comparison against the Stellar X3.
The iPhone audio is panned slightly left (I did not pan to correct this) due to how the phone was positioned. It picked up a bunch of natural room reverb, but with some strange effects; possibly phase issues as the iPhone has a stereo mic while the Stellar X3 records in mono. Superficially the "wet" reverb-heavy sound from the iPhone may be more pleasing than the dry Stellar X3 but a great deal of clarity is lost... This should be evident on decent speakers, earbuds, or headphones.
The iPhone mic gives a more muddy, boxy "bathroom" reverb sound and loses a lot of clarity, which can't be restored in post-processing, whereas a light touch of reverb could easily be added to the Stellar X3 audio without losing anything. Also notable in the iPhone audio are phase issues at
1:59 where there is a slightly glitchy effect, and
3:02 where the fullness of the chord doesn't come out and there is an odd beating sound. By comparison, these details (and more) are handled beautifully and reproduced faithfully by the Stellar X3.
[Full disclosure: TechZone Audio will be covering half the cost of my Stellar mic, but I promise these are my unbiased opinions... I really like it so far!]
