No Man's Sky was a mess when it launched in 2016. So looking at the game now in 2023, has it changed at all?
Well, that's what I tried to find out in this video. Along with my friend Andrew, we flew as a duo and solo to see if you should play No Man's Sky in 2023.

I have now sunk in 50+ hours into this game. It keeps showing new stuff. Please help me. My family hasn't seen me in days.

I think it's awesome they never gave up and made something of the game.

Don't forget, all the updates in No Man's Sky are completely free, which is an amazing breath of fresh air in today's gaming climate.

the redemption story of this game is truly one of the best in video game history. Would have been so easy for them to count the money and leave it at that but to pump out so much additional content is such a rare thing. Deserves all the praise and good fortune they can get!

I think developers should focus on making the first hours more fun for the next update. redesign the first hours from the ground up, make it more fun to capture more players.

I played this at release for about 1 week and there was literally NOTHING to do, this is wild how far it’s come since then, will definitely be adding this to my wishlist now

The fact that they took the criticism (justly so) and actually worked towards a game that fit the vision is both inspiring and incredible

You don't have to build your first base on a specific planet. You can build it anywhere. I just flew to a planet I thought looked really cool and had tons of resources and did it there. Also, small tip, build it next to a place with a launching pad and a galactic trade terminal. That way, you don't expand fuel when you take off and you can trade without having to teleport or fly to a space station.

NMS has made the greatest comeback in video game history. It's crazy how so complicated it gets especially if you have a ton of time invested in this game.

It’s an absolute credit to Sean and team that not even Starfield was able to accomplish things No Man’s Sky had day 1.

I can't understate how insane NMS's redemption arc is. It went from being the disappointment of a lifetime to one of my favorite games and I was there for the whole thing. 2023 NMS really is what we hoped for back in 2016.

I just did a quick read of this game's Wikipedia page. It's commendable how Hello Games learned from their mistakes and totally changed their PR strategy after the disastrous launch. They correctly identified over-hype as the problem that created most of the backlash, so every update since then has received little to no press before its release. They put their heads down, develop the update, and don't show something unless they actually have something to show. The results, I think, speak for themselves.

The fact they're still putting out updates 7 years later is incredible. Went from a game I swore I'd never buy to one of my all time favorites.

2000h in the game, still haven't achieved/acquired everything. At this point, I'm not sure how to even describe the game, because the amount of content is insane. I suppose at its core, you're a space scientist, exploring the universe and making discoveries along the way. But then.... - Warp, Fly, Land, Walk, Drive, Creature Ride, Swim on any planet, throughout countless solar systems... explore everywhere in 3rd or 1st person - Find scorching planets with volcanos, toxic infestations & rain, freezing tornado blizzards, and tropical paradises with stunning night sky or with lightning. Even has meteor strikes! - Dive in caves and find mysterious objects or dig your own den to avoid the dangers outside. - Meet aliens, discover their culture, learn their history & language, help them with missions. Discuss opportunities or places to discover. - Discover strange monsters including sandworms & dinosaurs, black market traders and crashed derelicts as you travel across an infinite space. Capture the monsters and use them as pets to help you on your journey. - Build bases anywhere with multiple floors for anything you want. Teleport to them with ease and store resources as you explore the galaxy - Setup the electronics in each base with lights, switches and proximity sensors. Party it up with your new light and DJ show or setup electronics to open things automatically - Cook meals for you and your guests with crafted meal recipes from animals you herded yourself on your farm. Enjoy the bonus from eating various ingredient combinations - Trade throughout the universe; buy stock items and warp between Space stations, Airports and minor settlements to make money - Or become a fighter and hunt traders, other pirates, or the law. Use an emergency jump and get the hell outta there - Get an Aircraft Carrier to store your Fighters, Haulers and Exploration vessels. Customize the floating base with your own personal rooms and equipment. Trade with aliens that land in your new Mother Ship, invite them as Wingmen, or buy their ships out completely - Build up your fleet of Cruisers to protect you and the Carrier. Send them out to various missions and reap the rewards or suffer the damage from mistakes - Land directly on the Cruisers of your fleet and gather their profits or explore their engine room to repair the damage - Upgrade your Carrier, ships, vehicles, guns & backpack with better shields, weapons, and storage space. - Join multiplayer in all of the above and blow your mind.

I have put over 100 hours into this game and I haven’t seen half the things you have in a 30 minute YouTube video. I love how much there truly is to do in silly infinite space game

What I love about this video as a bit of a veteran no mans sky player is how well you reflect the way you set yourself one goal in game then end up on an absolute Sci fi odyssey with so many twists and turns. Definitely a forever game

The greatest part about it is that the dev team is so small and they've sold so many copies of the game that they can work on this game just for the sake of it (like they have been) while living comfortably. At this point, pretty much all their promises with the game at launch have been fulfilled and then some, they're doing it for their own fun at this point. It's a mentality big game companies would never understand.

The way to avoid a spacefight with sentinel fighters is to cruise in atmosphere (just above ground really) for a while till they lose track of you, then go up and out.
