It feels like he wrote this song about his friend that he'd lost as he move into another place. It's like they're still seeing each other but there was already a wall between them. They used to have fun together and even thought they can be friends forever but it turns out, time and distance can slowly destroyed their friendship and it actually did. Maybe this is not what the song is really about but for me it is because of the two of you.

Realize how he said in the beginning "we knew we'd be friends forever" and in the end "we thought we'd be friends forever" that just brings back so many memories 💔
