Simply put, after a year of waiting, 343 failed to deliver on their roadmap. Its underwhelming and does not excite me about the future of Halo.. Here's how they can change that

The hiring freeze isn't even limited to the games industry, the entire software industry is pausing right now. Major tech venture capital funds have gone semi-privately to the companies they've invested in and said "we're expecting a prolonged recession so tighten your belts now instead of waiting until it's too late". Even Google has a hiring freeze and they usually hire relentlessly. Of course the issue with this is that software engineers typically have short tenures at companies, the average being something like 2 years - the constant attrition means that a hiring freeze doesn't just stop a team from growing, it ensures it will shrink. 343 using fixed-term contracts is even more insane than normal as it pushes people out of the studio just as they become most productive - it takes a year or more for an engineer to get truly up to speed on any substantial codebase, like Infinite. I can't imagine 343 wants to do any of this but they're part of Microsoft and MS doesn't exactly have a great history of how they treat their employees (although it has improved in the past decade).

Match XP Beta is one of the most insane things I've ever heard. What is there to test, that needs to wait till next year to even be tested, just do it!

Programmer here (not for 343 though). With a feature like split screen, it really has to be one of the first features you develop and you kind of have to orient many internal functionality and game design AROUND that functionality (of split screen). For instance, looking at he Bungie era, it looks like that was a core feature in which they have extreme care and made sure it was intertangled with the other core features and functionality. From what I see with the 343 era, it seems what they are doing and what they have been doing is kind of rushing stuff, as well as less care. For instance, look at the infamous "Craig" and the other red flags prelaunch. And in addition, consider how 343 launched campaign without split screen (and of course the other features without it) - from a programming stand point, it is VERY difficult to implement a massive, interdependent feature into a FINISHED product (or mostly finished). It takes absurdly more effort to go backwards to implement a core feature than it takes to have it there in the first place because you have to jerry rig and makeshift the code to actually accept it (probably why that hacked version was so glitchy) and this doesn't even factor in having split screen in areas that were designed without it (like campaign). Basically, if it ships out without split screen, that says the intention is that split screen doesn't matter and you are unlikely to get it. To jerry rig split screen post launch is a massive undertaking that requires loads of effort - something 343 continuously fails with; putting in effort.

343 has been given a decade of chances and feedback and seeing them still struggle even understanding halo and it's most basic parts is just embarrassing

This entire time, pretty much since Halo 5, maybe even 4, all we've been doing is talking about how 343 has messed up and then we keep talking about how they can fix it, but every single time they never do. They never fix it, they never listen, and honestly at this point I don't even want to bother giving them another chance at this. I've gone past the stage of anger and disappointment and I just don't even care anymore. They have had several games to get it together and every single time it's been a mess. We took so many steps backwards with 4 and 5, and then with infinite we finally took one SINGULAR measly step forward just for it to fall flat and break it's neck. If ANYONE else was making something like Halo, I would be putting my money there, and I would completely abandon this company that clearly doesn't care what we want because they never listen, but no one else is. I am done with this franchise, until someone get's it together and makes something worth my money, I am done. I have given enough chances, I've given the benefit of the doubt enough times, and supported this game that frankly I wasn't even super happy with to begin with because it looked like they might at least START to go the right direction, but I am now done. 343 has lost me. Until someone provides a Halo experience, whether it be from Microsoft, or someone else who does it better and takes it's place, I am done.

12:00 this is the same problem as "oh mods will fix it" lots of people have with games and developers like Bethesda. Mods shouldn't have to fix it. Mods shouldn't have to put fundamentals into the game.

The DMR or "tHe bAnDiT rIfLe" is the perfect embodiment of Halo Infinite, a neutered, stripped down and uninteresting version of that which came before.

What an interesting take on weapons that give birth to interesting game modes its something I never thought about

Imagine having a official community spotlight playlist in halo infinite- full of forge maps and gamemodes, it’s clear that working with the fans has only brought good things to the company (halo ce and 2 restoration mods)

Don't make a game a promise, if you know you can't keep it.

What I hate about the new modes 343 are adding is that they are all similar. Each one has just been a variation of generic zone-control modes. Even the arbitrary changes to KotH make it play more like these other modes they added. They absolutely need more variety and bringing back all the old modes would do that.

Problem with introducing mechanically complex weapons to Halo, is that the Slipspace engine is just weak. It can't do the same physics stuff Halo 3 did. Heck I even suspect it can't handle too many interactable objects in the sandbox at once since everything spawns in Racks now and not PLACED in the game. And even worse, grenades you throw before dying and haven't gone off DESPAWN ALONG WITH YOU. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?

Whenever a "Live Service" announces a "Roadmap" you know that game is on its final gasps of breath.

My gut instinct: I have a feeling that the March update may be the last, and that they go into maintenance mode. There's too much that is flawed or outright broken with the game, and it may not be financially worth it for MS to keep this going if the playerbase continues to dwindle at the rate it has. I have nothing to back up my feeling, but I can't help but feel this way.

saw this in a comment: Destiny 2 will have a new expansion by the time 343 adds an ingame report system

You mention how 343 should focus on adding more wacky weapons rather than add weapons that just spice up Slayer or CTF, and here we see one thing that 343 still cannot understand about Halo after 10 years of being in charge of it: They care too much about Competitive and not enough about Casual Social Play The Bandit DMR was clearly chosen over something like the Fuel Rod Cannon because the Pro Teams will use the Bandit in HCS more than the average Joe will use the Fuel Rod in normal MP

Surely I'm not the only one who has run out of patience with this studio. I genuinely can't think of a development studio that has utterly failed more fantastically than 343. It hurts to see an franchise I loved so much, turn into such a disappointment. I refuse to give 343 the benefit of the doubt, I've been doing that for a decade. There's no more doubt left. The studio is incompetent. Except when it comes to updating the store, they sure as hell have all hands in deck for that. I know there are people in the studio who care, but that means nothing when 3 games in a row, fail. I said to myself before Infinites release, if this game is another fuck up, I'm done with Halo. And it was, and still is. I'm done with the games, and have no interest in the future of the franchise now. Let it die, and let something new replace it.

I find it crazy that after h5 infection, being one of the biggest gamemodes in that game, it wasn't prioritised

"destiny pretty much perfected that model" Yeah, youre absolutely right it did. There is a pretty strong argument to be made that they kicked off this whole trend of : Release unfinished product, let the fanboys keep your game alive for months, slowly patch in a decent game, rinse and repeat. Truth be told its something that largely goes unnoticed and unatributed to bungie but back in 2014 when they released D1 they showed other developers at the time, yes you can release an unfinished game and people will pay to complete the product. that only solidified its self with destiny 2 tbh

When he said "Halo at its core is a competitive game" I completely gave up on the franchise. It's just totally ruined.
