Best combination for those who want natural vocals and not robotic ones : Wavetunes realtime with soft autotune you barely hear and then polish it with a manual autotune like Waves tune or Melodyne, if you're not accurate with your voice take the time with your plugins that's the only way. Also be sure to record in proper conditions, you need a good room around NC25 or less if you can, otherwise use a dynamic mic with a good preamp because you wouldn't want to pitch the noise that would sound really really bad. Other thing don't be close-mic, because of the proximity effect the sound of your voice will be really bassy and you don't want that when you tune a voice, it's too easy to recognise, be at least half your arm away from the mic and use a pop filter half way (as far as possible from the mic, stop sticking it!!!) because having pops pitched is also not natural as we all have it in the same frequencies, having a clean recording will really help doing the trick trust me. Waves plugins are a gold mine for all Sound Engineers out there, you just gotta know how they work.

thanks for the tutorial! Shared it with the Vocal Synth community :) I know a lot of folks within said community try to get the vocals perfect within the synths before mixing, but I love tuts like this that help make even the "crappy" voicebanks shine.

I am that random person who is a builder at heart and now I want to "build" a song so I am looking for a way to make random sentences into a singing voice and your video popped up. You have a very likeable attitude and vibe you put out, so good job! Also the visual effect of the skull at the end was pretty damn cool, getting some EDM/dnb vibe. Great vid man, you got my sub. Ive had harmony engine sitting on my list of plugins forever and have never once used it. Is there a way to set it to audio? So you can match it with a beat you dont have stems for? Get yourself a condenser mic for those vocals! Thanks for the info!

I love how Autotune just turns a shitty vocal recording into a stupidly robotic sounding vocal recording, while the other plugin creates something completely new that's only based on, but doesn't contain anything of the original voice, yet Autotune is the plug in that's considered 'cheating' by a lot of singers and fans. π
