Have you ever found yourself making assumptions about someone before you’ve met them? What about before seeing them play drums? From assuming she plays ‘quieter’ instruments to not being taken seriously before an audition, Dorothea Taylor has heard it all when it comes to judging a book by its cover. She’s here to prove that you can’t always accurately assess a drummer – or anybody – by how they look. Check out Dorothea’s cover of “Down With The Sickness” by Disturbed!

Drummers come in all shapes, sizes, ages, and ethnicities. “No matter how good you are, how old you are, we’re all still part of a drumming family.” - Dorothea Taylor

What’s better than watching her on a screen, is having her show up to your 8th grade band class and giving you drum lessons. Changed my life and how I play even today. Still have the drum pad and sticks I got to keep.

My grammy played the drums too. I will never forget the absolute shock as a 5 year old kid seeing grandma hop on the drum set and tear it up.

Imagine her coming through with freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and the meanest drum solo you've ever heard, what an absolute legend.

She’s played for 50 years and the amount of control and discipline really shows. I have a lot of respect for this woman

This. This is the video that got me into drumming, was at a very low point in my life, 26 and worried I was "too old to start" because I wouldn't be as good as someone who's played since early childhood. 5 months later and I'm loving it! So thank you, Granny Drummer, this video always brings a huge smile to my face 🤘🏻💕

My grand daughter ( on the spectrum ) was worried that 'girls don't play drums' She taught herself this by watching the video over and over. Tonight was her 21st birthday party and she played this and a Baby Animals song..full out on her electric kit...she stunned her friends and their families and it was wonderful. Dorothea's message has changed her attitude and given her so much confidence. Thank you so much. Grateful Nan.

My dad's still drumming at 70. He can't go as long because of his arthritis but he loves it and he says he'll play until he can't hold the sticks anymore.

Being able to get down with the sickness with the level of calm and cool as Dorothea should be something we all aspire towards

I'm a 43 year old mother, grandmother, aunty, sister etc and I'm also a drummer. I've been playing since I was 13. I also play bass and electric guitars and have been for the same amount of time as the drums. I love the words you said at the end Dorothea. Ultimately it doesn't matter who you are, where you're from, what your ethnicity is or by what you look like, people shouldn't judge by the cover of a person. You slayed those drums.

As a 52 year old woman who rocks out to bands like this while I wash dishes I find this so awesome! Hopefully young people won't immediately judge and ignore us ladies, you never know who we might be inside!
