I like how 40 year old Ben Shapiro is just learning now that stories are about characters.

“Somehow his town is completely not hit by the zombies” Ben just admit you didn’t watch it. They literally explain it before any gay shit happens

Ben: "All this gay stuff was filler, it doesn't advance the story." Also Ben: "I don't know anything about the source material, that's for children." (TLOU rated MA btw) Also also Ben: "What are themes, world building and other narrative devices?"

The irony here is Ben is the bad guy of the story. These two people couldn't find happiness until the world ended, BECAUSE of people like him.

It's always funny to see failed screenwriter Shapiro lecture actual writers

Ben says there are "no stakes" in this episode because he literally believes gay people don't matter

Imagine how mad he'll get when he finds out Ellie is gay 😂

For someone who supposedly doesn't care about them being gay and the episode just sucks, he sure does bring up that they're gay every time he speaks. I think he makes the "Broke Back zombie show" "joke" at the very least 6 times, he mentions "They can't have babies" around 4 or so times, and that "Everyone only loves it because it's gay" probably 3 or more times. He really really just doesn't care about the gay stuff he swears he doesn't. I'm sure he also wont hate when he finds out about Ellie.

Funny how explaining the show he avoided saying it was a pandemic and they need Ellie to make a vaccine 😂😂

I love how his entire critique basically comes down to, "I've never felt love before, so this meant nothing to me"

Funny thing is that Romero, grandfather of modern zombie movies, used zombie stories as a way to talk about society and politics in the first place

The point of zombie movies isn’t the fight against zombies, or the fight against bad humans, or even the fight against extinction. The point is to see how people hold onto to their humanity in the face of extreme trauma. How do we stay human. God damn conservatives suck. Episode three is the most relevant hour in the entire history of apocalypse movies/shows

Ben is gonna HATE the ending. Also whenever they address Ellie's past.

I burst out laughing when he says it needs to focus on people who can make babies

He's so obsessed about the gay love story that he totally missed that Bill has known Joel and Tess for YEARS before Joel and Ellie showed up to the house

5:48 I like how Ben Shapiro was so distracted by the gay that he missed the entire explanation as to, as he puts it, gay Ron Swanson's town was the way it was. Joel literally explains it.

So frustrating how Ben keeps saying the episode has no stakes. Does he not understand the emotional stakes of Bill opening himself up to Frank? Bill is sacrificing his proud independence for a shot at love and companionship in a post-apocalyptic world and that could have all kinds of consequences. I guess Ben really has trouble seeing character development if the characters are gay.

I can see why he failed as a screenwriter... A story is driven, yes, by the plot but also by character development How would you care about the plot or motivation of finishing it, if you can't even connect with the characters? Both aspects go hand-in-hand The whole purpose of the episode was to tell Joel to "protect what you love" and the audience connects because we saw these couple's life and struggles, more especifically Bill's bitterness he had towards strangers/the world before meeting Frank to then turning into optimism/hope for humanity after living with him. And if you've played the game, you know how hard that hits Joel later.

The episode gave insight to Joel's backstory and gave them a way to advance the plot by giving him and Ellie a place to stock up for their trip. It is only the 3rd episode, I am sure you we will see almost every cliche relationship or survival behavior before the end of the series. Just enjoy it bcuz it is great so far.
