"Dark Aspects" is a series is where I analyze the family-friendly games of Nintendo’s legacy that tend to “push the envelope” and portray more mature themes than one would expect. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest is even more intimidating as a sequel through use of horror and traversing enemy territory--with a soundtrack composed entirely by the man so terrific at strong ambience, David Wise.

Every episode of my Dark Aspects series:

DKC 2 is definitely the darkest of the original DKC trilogy. I love the foreboding atmosphere and the bizarre sense of humor.

I find it surprising that no one mentions the fact that cranky has a mounted kremling head -> 5:19

Pretty sure that opening scene in K Rool Duel Gabe me nightmares as a child. Watching the Big Bad besting your friend up while being unable to intervene was always scary. And then there’s Kackle...

So much nostalgia. I’m so glad I had the experience of playing this game as a kid when it came out. David wise is a genius and the game wouldn’t be the same without his work. IMO it definitely had the creepiest factor within the trilogy. Scariest stage ever of my childhood was haunted hall.

I think it's worth pointing out that the balloons pop immediately after your kong get's hurt instead which makes it seem like the kong is being protected from demise on the spot, which could mean many things including instant revival which would explain why the kong is dazed afterwards.

I actually do have a theory about what the flaming hand is that is holding Kleever. Granted in the SNES version they really don't elaborate on it but in the GBA version if you get to the Stronghold Showdown level before K. Rool flees he leaves you to contend with a giant orange Kremling known as Kerozene. As you couldn't tell by his name he is a fire boss. He breathes fire and you have to throw Kannonballs at his head. What's interesting is the first phase of the Kerozene boss. When you fight him he begins the fight by summoning two smaller clones of Kleever to use as weapons against you. This seems to imply to me that the flaming hand you fought that was holding up Kleever may have belonged to Kerozene and Kleever was just one of his swords.

Dixie best girl 💗 :) One of the 9999999999% reasons why i like DKC2 Is the dark vibe, the first DKC is kinda more cherful (expect for the game over screen and these weird kremlings with red eyes) David Wise made the most awesome soundtrack ❤ i used to be scared of ghost Rope as a kid xD

i think kleever was a kremling that didn't get along with k.rool, & therefor was thrown into the lava, and his ghost possesses the giant dagger knife.

Forgot to mention how Haunted Hall may be the scariest Donkey Kong Country level ever.
