On the "Down to Earth" point...
Us locals are quite a jaded bunch really, a lot of us only see the bad in ourselves (and the bad in others). But yeah I can attest that the general culture of the Maldives is quite laid back and casual, no matter who you are or what you are, MP or otherwise. Its a by-product of a culture that developed across small pockets where everyone knows everyone.

To Maldivians watching: I hope I was to do some justice to the story of your country with a combination of this video and the first impressions video. From the history I read, there was a lot more to be said, and I was hoping to get to the remote islands to share more aspects of the Maldives story and what happened beyond the capital. But couldn't see the opportunity to do it this time around without blowing the budget. I will be back for more someday though when I can travel a bit more independently without worrying about travel costs 😊
