3:21 as someone who also adores Gliscor, I know EXACTLY where this point is going. That razor claw that was south of Veilstone in Platinum but completely missing from BD/SP :(

13:16 "All you had to do was copy the game! That's what you were doing already!!!" Entirely sums up the whole situation with BDSP. It's like they forgot there was a difference in quality between the three games somehow

20:35 - I'm a 2D artist and I can understand a little bit of what's wrong. For starters, yes, the models' colors and shading are way too bright. That's what's giving the "clay model" feel, but even clay models are better shaded that this. Another thing I'd like to note is that the characters themselves are too static. There's not enough life in their animations. That is what's giving you the lifeless feel of these models. In fact, Sword and Shield AND Scarlet and Violet didn't have this issue (although SWSH was still too bright in the daytime)

I write video game reviews as part of my job, and as a life-long Pokemon fan, it was quite upsetting to write upon the terrible experience that I felt BDSP offered. One of the standout things that I remember writing about is how upset I was about how the grid was handled. I share a lot of the points you described here as the penultimate point. But the thing that annoys me the most... is that they did it well with the underground! redesigned the world to better suit the omnidirectional navigation. Controlling the character down there felt much more natural than the overworld. Its embarrassing! The parts I enjoyed the most about BDSP were all tied to the underground. Better world, better encounters, and hunting for gems for legends in Ramanas park was pretty fun too. But everything else, lacked luster.

My biggest issue is how it flies in the face of how the remakes are made.
RBY -> FRLG in the style of RSE
GSC -> HGSS in the style of DPPt
RSE -> ORAS in the style of XY
Then we go years without a remake, then finally
DPPt -> BDSP in this style off ????? what is this game?
You would have thought MAAAYBE in the style of SM/USUM. Or maybe even in the style of SwSh by that point but instead with got...that thing?!

As a game design graduate I wholeheartedly agree with you about the difficulty curve. I'm a game designer and let me just say, there's nothing wrong with having a difficult final boss (in this case, the elite four and Cynthia), BUT you NEED to build up to it and prepare your players for it with increasing levels of difficulty with each boss. If you have your player be able to steamroll the gym leaders, and then take the difficulty up to an 11 for the elite four and Cynthia, not only is that major whiplash for players not being prepared to face off against AI with competitive level of strategy, but with the AI being way too competitive it's just not going to be a fun time for any player. They seriously needed to fix the difficulty curve by either lowering the difficulty of the elite four and Cynthis or fix the gym leaders to be harder as you go on, or else do both since the player shouldn't suddenly have to face off against AI with competitive level movesets until like post game or something
EDIT: Sweet Arkoos I started a war in the replies

As someone who's introduction to Pokemon was Diamond and Pearl, I cannot express how heartbreaking it was to get these remakes. The contests were one of my favorite parts of the game and the fact that they turned it into a rhythm game was a blatant slap in the face. It took any of the challenge away for no reason.

Eevee fan here. When I first heard that BDSP was coming out, I immediately designed a team for my first playthrough. Leafeon was going to be a key player. Just like the gligar situation, I had to have someone who beat the game faster than me trade over an eevee.
And the worst part? I already went through a solid chunk of the game thinking I hadn't found the right underground hideaway yet. There is NO indication eevee couldn't be found there, and no reason to leave it out!
(Also I will never forgive BDSP turning both secret bases and pokemon contests so lame.)
