How to begin? It's difficult to say that only one person "created" rock & roll music. But if you look for the most influential person and one of the inventors of rock & roll you will always find... Chuck Berry. His opening guitar riff on "Johnny B. Goode" is the most famous in rock & roll history and influenced many other musicians from The Who and The Beach Boys to AC/DC, those Angus Young even copied the "duckwalk" of Berry for his own stage performance. In June 2008, the Rolling Stone magazine put it on the first place of their list of the "100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time". Nothing more to say ...

I was allowed to see and hear him live twice. Both times it was a special event. For me he is and was a century musician.

Often unmentioned is the fact that Chuck Berry was an *entertainer*, and a darn good one. He could captivate an audience, and keep them smiling with his music, his humor, and even his pantomime! When the documentary film "Hail, Hail, Rock & Roll"was being made, a portion was shot at the old "Cosmo Club" in East St. Louis, Illinois. Only a small portion of that evening made it into the final film, and left out was one of the best moments. While the band, including Johnnie Johnson, vamped behind him, Mr. Berry performed a pantomine scene of "going out on a date". He took the audience along for the ride as surely as any storyteller, to the amusement of everyone in attendance. ( Several years later, when asked about it, Mr. Johnson recalled that while out on tour, Mr. Berry had seen another performer do the "date" routine, and then incorporated it into his own show. ) Mr. Berry himself always gave great credit for his sucess to T-Bone Walker, whose guitar style, and stage performance, were the foundations of his career.

Wish Beat-Club would put Chuck's "C 'est la Vie" from the same 1972 concert back on You Tube. Many think it is his best tune.

Par bonheur sa prestation sur "Let it Rock" at the beat-Club est toujours présent sur You tube grâce à cette vidéo.

First saw this on, of all things, MTV, like over 30 years ago. Chuck was a brilliant musician and songwriter, but he was also a peerless performer.
