With my wife Dace we continue to travel to the other side of the map to share it with you and we are in Lithuania, the largest of the Baltic countries.
The idea of this, our second trip since we have the channel, is to visit some lovely places to share them with you.
Trakai is a small town in Lithuania that is located about 28 kilometers west of Vilnius, the capital of the country. Known for its beautiful island castle and stunning natural surroundings, life in Trakai offers a unique blend of history, culture and tranquility.
Life in Trakai has a unique atmosphere due to its lakeside location and important involvement through some periods of Lithuanian history.
Walking through Trakai unfailingly takes us back to bygone times. Added to the old buildings is an atmosphere of parsimony that has been lost in other geographies and even the clothing of some passers-by also seems detained in time.
Trakai is located in a picturesque region surrounded by reflecting bodies of water in a forested environment, the natural landscapes are beautiful and offer opportunities for outdoor activities such as boating, hiking and biking.
The castle on the island is one of the main attractions of the city. Dating back to the 14th century, it is an emblematic example of Gothic and Renaissance architecture in Lithuania. Visitors can explore the castle, its towers, and museums to learn about the region's history and the various cultures that influenced its development.
Tourists used to visit the castle to explore its historical rooms, exhibitions and enjoy the panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding area.
In Trakai there are very good restaurants where you can enjoy Lithuanian cuisine, an integral part of the country's culture that reflects its history, geography and traditions and is usually prepared with local products such as pork, freshwater fish, potatoes, grains, dairy and mushrooms. These ingredients are influenced by the country's climate and natural environment.
Tourism here is mostly Lithuanian with some visitors from neighboring countries, exempting Trakai from signs of globalization. You can still perceive an authentic, genuine atmosphere, a real feast for the eyes.
Water sports, cycling and athletics, boating and guided walks are some of the most important activities in the town. The natural environment, by itself, is already a perfect component to be, without anything to do, and feel like you are traveling.
Trakai can be reached by road from Vilnius or Kaunas, although we came directly from Latvia. A train also connects the town with the country's capital, Vilnius, in a journey of no more than 30 minutes.
Traveling is hyper-living and we will continue touring this side of the map to share it with you. New little-known destinations await us and we want you to join us.
