How Minecraft 1.21’s Ominous Bottle Could CHANGE Structures

The final major snapshot for the minecraft 1.21 update has been released. This added a lot of pretty important features like new enchantments for the mace and a few new potions. Among those was the ominous bottle which gives the player the bad omen effect. This works in villages to start raids and also trial chambers to make them more difficult. That made me realize though, there are far more than just 2 structures in minecraft. So in today’s video I’m going over my ideas for how the bad omen effect could be used in some of the game’s other locations!

Here’s my take on what they could do for Ancient Cities: Drinking an Ominous Bottle in an Ancient City will trigger an Ancient Omen. During an Ancient Omen, the Warden will spawn and will not despawn until the omen ends or the player is killed (or drinks milk). A single stone chest spawns in each structure within the city during the Ancient Omen (the ones from the concept art). When a player opens these chests, they make a lot of extra noise. Additionally, players will only be able to loot them for 5 seconds before the chest’s lid slams shut due to how heavy it is. Each time the lid slams shut, the Warden is alerted to where you are. Within these stone chests are additional, higher tier loot and even some exclusive, valuable loot: - Bone blocks - Coal blocks - Glow potions (Can be brewed using Glow Berries or Glow Ink Sacs) - Higher amounts of xp bottles and enchanted golden apples - Virus Armor Trim (Duplicated using any Sculk block) - Echo pottery sherd - Warden pottery sherd - Outburst enchantment (Applied to goat horns) - Vibrating Pulse enchantment (Applied to goat horns) - Hypnotic Tune enchantment (Applied to goat horns) - Amethyst Augment (Used on tools/weapons that couldn’t otherwise be upgraded) - Ancient Handle (Used with Echo Shards to craft the new Echoing Scythe weapon) - Slash enchantment (Applied to the Scythe) - Scoop enchantment (Applied to the Scythe) - Reap enchantment (Applied to the Scythe) - Soul Snatch enchantment (Applied to the Scythe) Outburst I, II, III, IV, V: Allows the player to shoot a burst of sonic energy which provides a chance to stun opponents. The distance the burst travels, the damage it deals and the chance to stun all increase with each level. Found exclusively in Ancient Cities during an Ancient Omen. Incompatible with Vibrating Pulse and Hypnotic Tune. Vibrating Pulse: Found exclusively in Ancient Cities during an Ancient Omen, this enchantment allows the player to emit a pulse that temporarily deactivates any redstone machinery and also shatters any glass blocks. Incompatible with Outburst and Hypnotic Tune. Hypnotic Tune: When using a goat horn with this enchantment, it will emit a specific tune that puts neutral mobs in a temporary trance that allows them to fight alongside you. Found exclusively in Ancient Cities during an Ancient Omen. Incompatible with Vibrating Pulse and Outburst. Scythe enchantments: Slash I, II, III, IV, V The first enchantment for the new scythe weapon. It acts as the scythe’s form of sharpnes. Reap I, II, III Another enchantment for the new scythe weapon which is also obtained from the ancient recipe book. It allows the player to harvest extra experience from mobs at the cost of some of their drops. Additionally, when used in PvP, it has a small chance to steal some hunger points from your opponent. Scoop I, II This enchantment also applies to scythes and acts as a vertical form of knockback. When you hit a mob, it will send them flying straight up. The height depends on the level of the enchantment. Soul Snatch The final enchantment for the scythe. This incredibly powerful enchantment allows the player to steal the souls of mobs they kill. Incompatible with the Reap enchantment, a mob killed with the Soul Snatch enchantment won’t drop anything (including experience) except its soul. Mob souls can then be used in a brewing stand to create special potions that allow players to transform into their desired mob. This enchantment only has 1 level.

6:25 you can also now get tridents from regular trial vaults. So they are finally gonna be easier to get.

Idea: if you build a Wither normally, you fight the Java one, but if you build a WIther with the ominous effect, you spawn in the Bedrock one. This way Bedrock players could finally have easier time and Java players would have an option to chose a harder fight.

3:00 Small correction: Bad Omen is the only way to get the heavy core now! It won’t spawn in regular trial vaults anymore.

The issue with a lot of these structures is that they’re kind of either a one time thing or lacking any sort of “completion” of them. Dungeons don’t exactly have an end unless you break the spawner, and you can’t exactly “re explore” a woodland mansion. With raids and trial chambers, the challenges have a beginning and end to them, and can be redone infinitely. I think if we’re gonna see more ominous effects on structures in the future, it’ll be through new structures akin to trial chambers.

I saw this on the Minecraft Feedback Discord that suggested a Blood Moon. I penciled in where instead of making it a random event that was originally suggested, it will instead require having a Bad Omen while it is a Full Moon to trigger the Blood Moon Omen where new and harder mobs will spawn, and will drop exclusive loot during this event.

Good that Bad Omen is now optional but now the funny new player trap is gone. Kill a weird aggressive villager and then immediately start a boss battle by accident at the nearest village

One thing that would really let this idea take off is: what If structures like strongholds, nether fortresses, bastions, mansions, ect had trial spawners, this would not only allow for stuff like the stronghold to be actually challenging, but also all for the bad omen effects to be more prevalent and make it so you can actually visualize the changes happening to the structure.

5:36 They should do this... And then make it so mobs effected with blindness can only navigate by sound, like the Warden (that way it actually has a use outside of multiplayer).

Using an Ominous Bottle in an Ocean Monument should turn all normal guardians into Elder Guardians.😈

It would be cool to make the ominous bottle work on every structure, especially the desert well

5:03 they could also do the iceologer from the mob vote. It's not exactly fitting, but it's an illager we don't have yet either

My perfectionist brain is incredibly happy that they’re streamlining this feature and making it more integrated with the rest of the game. My one critique though, is that vanquishing a Pillager Captain should still inflict you with Bad Omen automatically. Because it drops a bottle now, raids are made into a choice, which goes against their philosophy of making villagers less like objects and more “humane” (HUGE quotations btw).

I think drinking an Ominous Bottle in a Nether Fortress should spawn a Wildfire from the pre-existing blaze spawners. This will add some optional challenge, and could even come in a smaller update, similarly to the Armadillo features.
