omg this is so clever, the moms projecting her problems in her marrage on to the daughter and giving her unhealthy insecurities. For example the mom says "barbies never end up alone" and we learnt in Sleepover that the dad's always "banging his barbie". I think the mom thinks if she makes the daughter thinner and more attractive than she is then life will go well for her daughter and she won't end up with a man that isnt satisfied and needs to cheat on her but what she doesn't realise is her daughter is being destroyed in this proccess. It's so sad, Many people have projected their crap onto me and given me unhealthy insecurities. This song is so relatable to people that are insecure with their looks. I feel like alot of the time these insecurities manifest in peoples childhoods so this song is perfect. This song is fucking art. I love you Rory.
