I had a feeling they were once something akin to demons- but to think they WERE demons before hand shows just how terrifying this situation is. Someone with that kind of power can turn you into a mindless, mute puppet that can be controlled to kill anyone if they're told to. Only having a remnant of what they once were or could've been.
