I love how LCD Soundsystem always make their way into The '75 albums

the way this album makes me feel like I've lived all my aesthetics and alter egos

as someone who is 17, this song speaks so much to me. 17 is such an uncertain time; its the edge of your childhood, the time you graduate, apply for colleges, say goodbye to so many people and you feel like everythings ending when you cross that line but its not. it just feels that way.

so glad I've been here since 2013. this whole album feels like coming home. like here we still are after all these years. we've all grown up, together. but not in a sad way. in a comforting way.

didn't love it at first listen but now it's one of my favorites off the album, what a brilliant intro

These lyrics are genius. “Mining all the bits of you you think you can sell” is unreal

How badly I needed this song when I was seventeen, but I'm glad to have it now, because I can reminisce over those feelings. Ugh, nothing beats their opening songs. This is like a breath of fresh air and I'm so glad to be experiencing it.

If anyone is interested, here are the lyrics to this song: That's how it starts We go back to your house We check the charts And start to figure it out And if it's crowded, all the better Because we know we're gonna be up late But if you're worried about the weather Then you picked the wrong place to stay That's how it starts And so it starts You switch the engine on We set controls for the heart of the sun One of the ways we show our age And if the sun comes up, if the sun comes up, if the sun comes up And I still don't wanna stagger home Then it's the memory of our betters That are keeping us on our feet You spent the first five years trying to get with the plan And the next five years trying to be with your friends again You're talking 45 turns just as fast as you can Yeah, I know it gets tired, but it's better when we pretend It comes apart The way it does in bad films Except in parts When the moral kicks in Though when we're running out of the drugs And the conversation's winding away I wouldn't trade one stupid decision For another five years of life You drop the first ten years just as fast as you can And the next ten people who are trying to be polite When you're blowing eighty-five days in the middle of France Yeah, I know it gets tired only where are your friends tonight? And to tell the truth Oh, this could be the last time So here we go Like a sail's force into the night And if I made a fool, if I made a fool, if I made a fool On the road, there's always this And if I'm sewn into submission I can still come home to this And with a face like a dad and a laughable stand You can sleep on the plane or review what you said When you're drunk and the kids leave impossible tasks You think over and over, "hey, I'm finally dead" Oh, if the trip and the plan come apart in your hand You look contorted on yourself your ridiculous prop You forgot what you meant when you read what you said And you always knew you were tired, but then Where are your friends tonight? Where are your friends tonight? Where are your friends tonight? If I could see all my friends tonight If I could see all my friends tonight If I could see all my friends tonight If I could see all my friends tonight

LYRICS ⬇️ This will get bigger if you know what I mean I’m sorry if you’re livin’ and you’re seventeen I heard it’s en vogue to be super thin But your friends aren’t thick so they can’t come in I’m feelin’ apathetic after scrollin’ through hell I think I’ve got a boner But I can’t really tell and the fans are on It’s cynical This Adderall And vitriol And young people drinkin’ Aperol And it’s about time This is what it looks like I’m sorry about my twenties, I was learnin’ the ropes I had a tendency of thinkin’ about it after I spoke We’re experiencin’ life through the postmodern lens Oh, call it like it is You’re makin’ an aesthetic out of not doin’ well And minin’ all the bits of you You think you can sell whilst the fans are on Whimsical, political Liberal, with young people as collateral You see, I can’t sleep ’cause the American Dream Has been buying up all of my self-esteem While QAnon created a legitimate scene But it was just some bloke in the Philippines And it’s about time (And it’s about time) (This is what it looks like) (And it’s about time) (And it’s about time) (This is what it looks like) (This is what it looks like) I’m sorry if you’re livin’ and you’re seventeen (x8)

just when I think some of the lyrics are too dryly cynical and "meh" for me, the repetition of the line "I'm sorry if you're living and you're seventeen" gets me right in the heart; and that's why I love this band, the contradiction between the everyday and banal, and the tender and emotional

Happy 1975 Day, nothing like listening to a fresh album for the first time on this crisp October day with a clear blue sky and golden leaves falling in the wind.

My favourite 1975 opener easily. The passion and reality in the lyrics are absolutely perfect.

what a genius and artistic way to start off the album though we'll all miss the classic "midnight, car lights" The 1975 album starter. now this is an era to remember. totally worth the wait for the album. they're at their very best.

The album thesis statement, lyrical genius, and phenomenal transition from the MFC era, all wrapped up in one. They never cease to impress.
