I cut off a big chunk of my thumb in July with that mandolin. That being said, it was so clean that the urgent care people were amazed and it's almost completely healed. Like by completely I mean except for a bump that's still healing, my finger has mostly grown back. It's kinda amazing how well your fingers can heal. And how much they can bleed :)

I know people who have cut their finger or sliced a bit of skin in the palm of their hand because they were holding the veggie with their palm. I'm with you, I'm scared. Once I'm getting down to a small piece I grab the little guide thing or I just throw that random non sliced piece in the dish and continue my day. Once the heat, sauce, other ingredients hit it, it will be fine. I don't need that kind of perfection in my life. lol. The emergency room is not the room I want to be in.

hate using the mandolin cause it just feel awkward to me because of that safety issue, like it needs some more years or updates before I'm satisfied with the tech but I can't deny that it does save time or is aesthetic (to unskilled knifers like me) so one day I might cave or it'll have that life changing update and I'll finally start having the veggie cuts of my dreams
