Red Eyes to witness the future. Purple to see the lies. But Orange? Green? That remains to be seen.

Stalking the dark forests of Appalachia the Mothman remains one of Fallout 76’s greatest mysteries.

A Cryptid creature, in actuality it is not a singular entity, with numerous Mothmen having a variety of different eye colours and… temperarments.

Some will stalk you, others will hunt you, some are worshipped and others impart wisdom, made all the more confusing by close ties to another one of Fallout 76’s greatest mysteries.

What we are left with are more questions.

Why is the red eyed mothman considered divine?

How did the Wise Mothman become wise?

And what is the significance of all mothman hatchlings having orange eyes?

In todays video we are going back through the history of the Mothman, combing the evidence that can be found before presenting 10 different interesting facts & theories you may have missed about Appalachia’s most famous Cryptid.

Let’s get started!

Out of all the apocalyptical professions available in Fallout 76, I feel like the one where you get high on neurotoxic moth dust and study a wise bug...might be the better pick

Mothman canonically does bestow blessings, and knowledge representated by the xp boost. Seems enough to be real and worthy of acknowledgement

The Wise Mothman is trying to protect humanity from Ug Qualtoth i think. Marlon says the voices he hears are always appeased after communing with the Wise Mothman, those same voices sound a lot like the ones the raider Hugo in the quarry heard back in F4... That was Ug Qualtoth and he eventually convinces Hugo to end himself after he's no longer useful. The Wise Mothman saved people from "the flood" aka the nukes. And We know Ug Qualtoth is connected to radiation given his influence over ghouls, the radiation emanating from his obelisk, radiation surrounding the sleeping giant in F4, and mini nukes at his altar... I like the idea of a cute highly intelligent moth beefing with Lovecraftian horrors. 👀

The cryptids (and especially Mothman) is the actual reason I play 76 and why I got into fallout. So it's definitely gonna be amazing if they give more attention to them in future updates. I'm enjoying the Rip Daring season, and hopefully I'll clear that scoreboard this week :D

Really great lore exploration. As a side note, recently a Mothman (not sure which kind) got inside a large camp structure of mine and with one blast destroyed everything in the room!

Well I think, much like with the aliens in the fallout universe, the moth man was something that existed before the great war and without humans hunting it for a long time, it was able to procreate and even involve due to radiation

Nothing spookier than wandering down the street, freshly new to the game, taking a turn down a broken road towards an ever increasing amount of eerie looking trees at night only to see a couple spotlights nestled in between trees and upon getting closer realize its a monster.

I remember when I first started playing 76 on launch, I encountered a Wise Mothman in a random encounter. It was hostile, so I had to kill it though. I know that encounter has since been removed from the game, but encountering the thing at level 2, fresh out of the vault, got me interested in the Cryptids of 76. Still obsessed with them and their lore to this day. “Rip Daring and the Cryptid Hunt” has been my favorite season so far because of this. Can’t wait to learn the lore of the Blue Devil and Ogua once they’re added! Good video as always, Friend!

You forgot to Mention his eggs are Extremely Delicious! Mothman may be known for their Seemingly Supernatural Abilities, but their is absolutely nothing Supernatural about how delicious Mothman Eggs are! A Mothman Egg Omelette is a Complete, Nutritious, & Well-Balanced Breakfast! Fun for the whole Family! And if the Eggs Hatch you have a Brand new member for the Family, better hope you locked the Wardrobe! Mothman Eggs, the Meal of Tomorrow!

In the vault used for daily ops, the one full of ice from damaged cryo units, there are tubes with giant cocoons/chrysalids. Think that vault was mutating the stock of animal subjects it was supposed to preserving.

regardless of the origin, the mothman is an awesome addition to fallout lore and is literally the only reason I ever come back to fo76

Living life in the Wasteland by getting high off moth dust and getting smarter by being enligtened by Mothman, I know what I'm doing if the apocalypse happens

Talked to the new ally today about all his Mothman theories/beliefs. What I've never got is it's a Moth-man yet it lays eggs? Wouldn't be a Moth-woman??? or some other name?

This is a really good take on the mothman. I didn't know much of the in-game mothman and didn't know much of the connection to the interloper and this video, damn... So awesome 😎

I'd love to see Mothmen return in a future game, with maybe a splinter group of the Children of Atom serving as their cult or mixing with a pre-existing one

Hold up the purple eyed Mothman are supposed to be friendly and Wise... Then why was I attacked by one.... And wasn't very wise to attack a man in power armor if I say so myself.
