The main intent of this video is not to highlight racial differences. Race was only used as a metaphor.

Race is a good metaphor though and here's why. African Americans still lag behind the national average in Income level and Poverty measure. This is according to the United States Census Bureau.

$36,544
The annual median income of black households in 2015, compared with the nation at $55,775.

25.4%
The percentage of the black population below the poverty level in 2015, while nationally it was 14.7 percent.

What can we do to help and uplift one another, to make this world a better place? It's up to you.

This video is used to provoke discussion and understanding only. Please exercise restrain and decorum when commenting. At the end of the day, learn to love one another.

1 John 3:17 But whoever has the livelihood of the world and sees that his brother has need and shuts up his affections from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
3:18 Little children, let us not love in word nor in tongue but in deed and truthfulness.

This is still one of the best examples of the impact of privilege on YouTube. It makes an impact in such a simple way and shows how systemic inequality manifests. I have shared this with I don’t know how many people since I first saw it.

I love that the kids in the back still ran and they gave it there all even though they knew that the people in the front had a head start

As a kid I couldn’t step forward for many of these things BUT I did what I had to do and now our kids are able to take 2 steps forward for ALL of these! ❤

for some reason the people laughing in the front really ticked me off, it just felt like they weren’t taking it seriously and didn’t care about what it meant.

I couldn't take even 1 step. But look at us now. My husband grew up even more poor then me. We are buying our dream house on 2.5 acres and we just bought the newest car we've ever had by 13 years! DON'T EVER STOP TRYING! WANT IT MORE THAN ANYTHING AND KEEP WORKING FOR IT! GOD IS GOOD! BLESS YOU ALL IN YOUR STRUGGLES. I PROMISE IT GETS EASIER!

Seen this so many times and I can see the pain in their eyes as he spoke some of those words about the hardships they endured. Mad respect to them for surviving in a world that they shouldn't even have to.

Notice how some of the people who were in the front jogged so that people in the back could pass them, then there is Kyle sprinting at the front so he can buy monster.

That’s life! Some have privilege; some don’t. But everybody still has to run the race

I watch this from time to time, to remind me to be humble. Sometimes we can be so upset over our own problems, we fail to realize how small our problems can be compared to others. I cry every time I see this video. I am blessed to a bit closer to the middle than the back.

Coming from someone that would have taken no steps in this- it can be as impactful to us watching this and seeing just how far you have come through your own work and your own choices. This stuff gets normalized in families and communities to the point that I was ridiculed for pursuing a college education, even threatened a couple of times over it. Sometimes seeing that others really did have so many advantages is exactly what someone needs to validate their experience and put it into perspective. I didn't learn this fully until I left my home.

I legit had tears in my eyes schools don't understand what students are going through at home they expect us to have everything we need... but some people just can't get it because we have to worry when our next meal will be or not paying for college (getting a scholarship) It's just so sad how others have no advantages and this experiment shows how everyone can be human but just because we are all human doesn't mean we don't have different backstories.

I cant express how much I value this video! I used it throughout college and here I am again using it in a Bachelor of arts program in justice studies because this isn't a one-time lesson but needs to be a reoccurring lesson!
