Cyclops does use the punch dimension by using his eyes as portals to that dimension which is made up of pure concussive energy. He is also surrounded by an invisible force field that shields him from similar type energy attacks. Cyclop and his brother Havok have blasted each other without even making the other move a fraction as if they couldn't feel each other's blast at all. This is probably what shields him from snapping his neck.

Was always confused on why there was never an iteration of cyclops that didnāt have to press a button on his visor to shoot. Youād think theyād make buttons on his hands or something like squinting a certain way to activate it otherwise you hold his hand down preventing him from clicking a button and heās powerless

Iāve been reading X-men related comics for over 30yrs. Although Iām not the biggest Cyclops fan, even I can acknowledge the importance & significance of his character. I recognize that in Comics, Movies, Cartoons (Not so much X-Men TAS & X-Men Evolution but especially Wolverine & the X-Men) he has been portrayed rather poorly. Cyclops should be considered the most pivotal mutant. In the future he is responsible for the Summers Rebellion Resistance. His children are debatably considered the most powerful beings in the world. Due to his status, genetics, powers & experiences he shouldāve been transitioned to an Omega level or beyond mutant. His brothers Havok, Adam X as well. Vulcan already is. The reasoning is that he was apart of 1. The Twelve. 2. Merged with Apocalypse. 3. Contained the Void (Evil counterpart to the Sentry) in his mind. 4. Possessed by the Phoenix (Phoenix 5 then ultimately Dark Phoenix 5. His powers were altered dangerously & more powerful Post AVX. 6. Used the Phoenix Egg to become Phoenix again during Secret Wars.

The fact that Cyclops' eye blasts have no recoil or residual heat at all actually makes a lot of sense when you think about it.
The only thing I find dumb is the theory about his eyes being portals to another dimension. It just makes infinately more sense to believe that his cells are constantly absorbing solar rays and he can convert that radiation into energy that he releases through his eyeballs as concussive energy blasts. For a fair number of reasons it's just easier to believe that he's a living nuclear reactor that basically melts down every time he opens his eyelids.

A running theory for Scott's affinity for psychics is that Summer's DNA is particularly powerful and prone towards utilizing exotic energies. We see this backed up by his brothers Havoc (absorbs cosmic radiation) and Vulcan (controls all manner of energy) and Scott himself. Psionic energy seems to resonate well with this, on a genetic level, which is why kids of mixed Summers-Gray genes tend to come out at Omega level (Nathan, Nate, Racheal and Hope Summers are all upper tier psychics with energy abilities.)

The beams producing heat and flame in the movies isn't a mistake. Heat is a byproduct of force. If you hit something hard, the kinetic energy is converted into heat and light. You can see this in action in places like the Mantis shrimp, which punches so hard it creates cavitation bubbles of intense heat that boils water for a split second.
