In May 1997, the quiet River Parish community of La Place, Louisiana is rocked by back-to-back murders that left the St. John Parish Sheriff's Department struggling for answers. The first murder victims in St. John Parish, SAM and LOUELLA ARCURI, are discovered. Five days later, DET. HYMEL is called to the scene of another homicide. The victim is JOAN BROCK - another prominent, elderly member of the community. Just as in the first murder, the perpetrator left no physical evidence behind. Again, the killer did not bring a weapon to the scene but rather used a 'weapon of opportunity' found inside the home. Also, prior to entering, the perpetrator cut the phone and alarm wires. Right away DET. HYMEL believes the murders are connected. DET. HYMEL decides to reach out to the FBI at the New Orleans Field Office to try to obtain a suspect profile for their killer. DET. HYMEL meets with SPECIAL AGENT DAN FUNK and they visit the two crime scenes. SA FUNK presents the details of both murders to the FBI Profilers in Quantico, VA. Unfortunately, he is told there is not enough information to complete a suspect profile. The panel suggests they return to the River Parishes and look into other cold cases from neighbouring areas to see if they can find other murders that parallel the ones that happened in La Place.
