January 29, 2021 - Very sad news that legendary guitarist with The Animals HILTON VALENTINE has died. What can you say about this man who gave us so much in the world of rock n roll... it's hard to summarise but he was a beautiful, great, influential guitarist who blessed us with his talent and flair with so many unforgettable and legendary performances. Chuck Berry (!) once described Hilton Valentine as "a wildly exciting instrumentalist", absolutely yes! there was so much more to Hilton than House of the Rising Sun, please check out Hilton's stormin' performances on album tracks and live performances and you would soon hear why Chuck Berry would acknowledge Hilton in this way. Let it Rock! Hilton, we loved and admired you and forevermore thank you for all your innovative contributions to rock n roll and for your presence. Rest in Peace and Love Forever! I'm 72. Our garage band played this in '68 for the local March of Dimes Telethon. After we packed up, we stopped at a local bar for some water. When we told the bartender what we were doing out there, he invited us to play for the bar. We unloaded, set up in a corner and played a few songs for them. They all told us how good we sounded. We left feeling really proud of ourselves. Man, did we ever suck! But it at 16, we thought we were it! Love the memories!

I was serving in the British Army in Germany when this was released and remember the furore it created by being over 4 minutes long. At that time all records were a max of 3 minutes which fitted nicely into 30 minute and 1 hour radio shows, FOUR MINUTES, who do these youngsters think they are? Well now we know, brilliant music that I am still enjoying at 78.

My dad taught himself how to play this on guitar. He died from lung cancer in 2017 and this was the last song he ever played on guitar with hands so swollen he could hardly strum.. miss you dad..
