The ability for the internet to create mythology and fictional creatures that while nonexistent are conceptually horrifying never fails to impress me.

To be honest, I liked it better when it was a creepy thing that came into peoples homes, observed them, and ran off. We don't have enough cryptids like that who are just kind of weird and creepy. Once all the gore and tearing people apart came in it cemented itself as just another cheesy over the top gore fest character.

I liked The Rake better when it wouldn’t attack you unless provoked and was more curious than anything. Monsters that randomly attack anything pull you out of the story.

The image of the rake on the bed made me fucking die laughing because all I could think of is how it looked like the depressed wojak with the extreme shading

I think the Rake perfectly captures that raw, almost primal sense of fear only a handful of things can really cause. It would make for a perfect horror movie monster given the horror renaissance of recent years and I'm genuinely mad he's not as relevant given that he's still pretty scary.

I had the personal misfortune of stumbling onto creepasta lore when I was too young to discern it from reality. This dignified lad along with Herobrine and the Russian Sleep Experiement traumatized my little kiddie mind and really makes me question what I was doing on the internet at that age.

I love how much of a contrast the rake has compared to some of the other creatures that the internet has made over the years. Like while most of them are out for blood, The rake could easily kill you if he wanted to but he usually doesn't because all you have to do is see him and that'll drive you insane enough where he doesn't need to do anything to you. He finds joy in screwing with people, implying that he's going to go after their friends or even them one day. Whether he ever actually does that or not is unimportant, if you saw that thing standing at the foot of your bed and it told you it was going to go after one of your friends or family members you probably wouldn't be the same afterwards either. That's what he wants, and that to me is a lot more unnerving than your standard killer.

The reason so-called 'sightings' of the rake are so common is the same reason sasquatches seem to appear so common in culture. A pale, thin humanoid that lacks certain facial features is like, the thing people go to when they want to make a scary monster and have no ideas for a design.

It is captivating how The Rake image came from being ripped straight out of a promo from a horror video game and became one of the first creepypasta monsters to ever created. Imagine if that creature got his own game.

Well with the resurgence of creepy pastas getting remade… hopefully we can get a re-updated version of the rake

I still fondly remember being 12 years old and discovering the rake through slenderman stories. I spent the first day watching a bunch of "proof" videos and reading as many stories as I could. I got like 3 hours of sleep that night and for months after I had a subconscious fear when I was alone that something was stalking me from behind. I'm not nostalgic over much cause my childhood was pretty sad and weird but that was genuinely a really good time. Ty Mr. Rake, you were a real one.

I would have to say a big reason why we fear the rake is because we almost always sleep in a place we know as safe and to wake up seeing something stare at us while we are at our must vulnerable probably triggers something primal in us

God the Rake is still easily one of my favorite Creepy Pastas. It’s just way too good.

Ironically enough my local news station posted the iconic photo of the rake calling it the "Louisiana zombie" claiming it was captured on a hunters game camera. Edit: I remember I was young at this time and the whole ordeal made me so interested in the supernatural/creepypasta and the associated

The Rake going from a creepy but fairly harmless cryptid that only wanted to observe people but in a scary way likely unintentionally to Just Another Murder Monster™️ is some solid evidence that gatekeeping is important

that story in the beginning just made me think “what if the rake was just someone’s weird looking dog” for some reason

Shout out for insomniac games creating the iconic picture at 14:48. The picture was a promo for the third resistance game and the monster in the picture is a lesser enemy from the game.

As a kid i was scared shittles from the rake. Until i found a "creepypasta" that just gave them a back story and it lost all the spooks. It was something about the rake being a cursed pirate and that he wears an amulet that gives him powers/made them like that and if you take it away the rake gets badly hurt/weakened. It was basically a origin vid plus a big self insert character beating the rake. As much as I love origin Storys and weird cryptic things being explored and given history, the story gave too much making the creepyness of it suffer greatly. Can't remember who made the video nor who wrote the story since it was many years ago that i listened to it

When I was little, My mom got me to watch the Lord of the Rings, and when Gollum was on screen I was always terrified, because of how both human and inhuman he looked like, as well as his introduction, him crawling around down in the ruins of the dwarf tunnels, Frodo seeing him and going to Gandalf to ask what that was, and Gandalf's explanation of who and what Gollum was, and in the third film, seeing his transformation haunted me, I would have nightmares of me being chased by a demonic Gollum that looked just like the Rake, and till this Day, the Rake is the only good Creepypasta that keeps me up at night, and now since I've been having sleep paralysis sometimes, I just see the Rake's head poking up from the foot of my bed... Staring at me...
