i dont think its a Remedy didnt learn from Control but Control is a 3rd person action-adventure and Alan Wake 2 is a 3rd person survival horror. Stealth would be nice but seems like its got a lot of RE influence and those games largely play the same as what im seeing. Re4 remake introduced really light stealth but RE2 remake and basically all others have none and you fight enemies in small rooms, hallways and pretty much continue forward until you are ambushed with another combat encounter. I also think Control is a power fantasy, you kinda need to keep increasing the combat as things are going because the character is getting literal superhero powers.

I think you are missing the real reason for the case board. It was to allow those who never played first game and Control to be able to follow along the story. It filled in the bits and pieces that Remedy fans already knew going in. And because the story is coming at you from so many different angles this allowed players, especially new ones, to keep it all in your own head.

Complaining about the light and shoot flow is so strange to me, because this is fundamentally what Alan Wake is. And it’s not far off from most shooters, the light mechanic is taking down an enemy’s shield in any other game. You could simply any shooter game as “walk A to B and shoot” but that would be disingenuous.

Luke did you play the first Alan wake? the way you described the combat doesn't do justice to how it actually plays. because the game is attempting to be horror focused it's taking many liberties from resident evil. resident evil is often slow and methodical shooting and avoiding enemies. even if it's only a couple you take it slow and careful because resources are scarce and enemies hit hard. Alan wake 2 has way fewer enemies than the original and way fewer encounters

The fact that you criticize different weapons that “all fire projectile” makes no sense to me; they’re made to feel like real weapons what do you expect? It’s kinda the same like it is in Uncharted where u always use weapons that fire projectile. It’s a direction they choose for their game. In this regards i think they nudged toward realism instead of going crazy like they did with control shooting. I feel like it also reinforces the tension in the encounters.

Combat was an afterthought and for this game I don't mind that. This is a story driven game. You either like it or move on to other games. This is a very different game from Control. I don't think it's fair to say they learned nothing. I'm sure if and when Control 2 comes around, the combat will be great.

Despite a lot of craziness and fun, I have been unable to finish Alan Wake 2 thanks to a Hard Lock bug which is preventing me from finishing the game at all. Hopefully, one day soon, we'll get a patch that will let me finish it, but until then I'm just waiting on the fix... In addition, broken objectives and a PC port that wouldn't even boot until MSI Afterburner had all processes ended contribute to a package deal that makes it really hard to recommend to you. Play it safe, and wait to spend your hard earned money until they've updated it.
