This song is incredible no doubt about it. The amount of different feelings this song throws at you in its 5:00 time span is incredible. The slow beginning that reaches its climax with the chorus, then quickly transitioning to the more upbeat section building up in the background as Bo realizes what he must do. Then this song just becomes a total vibe for the next third while also being fun AND funny. “Lord help me channel Sandra Bullock in the blindsight” is a personal favorite. And finally of course the transition into the soft part again. Sets the tone for a lot of the rest of the special and I don’t even really need to mention the great piano and vocals bo has. There’s so much that could be said about this one but I’ll leave it there it’s a fantastic intro to the special after Content.
This song ranks #8 out of 32 in my personal ranking

The world is changing
The planet's heating up
What the fuck is going on?
Rearranging
It's like everything happened all at once
Um, what the fuck is going on?
The people rising in the streets
The war, the drought
The more I look, the more I see nothing to joke about
Is comedy over?
Should I leave you alone?
'Cause, really, who's gonna go for joking at a time like this?
Should I be joking at a time like this?
I wanna help to leave this world better than I found it
And I fear that comedy won't help
And the fear is not unfounded
Should I stop trying to be funny?
Should I give away my money? No!
What do I do?
Healing the world with comedy
Indescribable power of your comedy
The world needs direction
From a white guy like me (Bingo!)
Who is healing the world with comedy
That's it!
The world is so... fucked up
Systematic oppression
Income inequality
The other stuff
And there's only one thing that I can do about it
While— While being paid and being the center of attention
Healing the world with comedy
Making a literal difference, metaphorically
A Jew walks into a bar, and I've saved him a seat
That's healing the world with comedy
I'm a special kind of white guy
I self-reflected, and I wanna be an agent of change
So I am gonna use my privilege for the good (Very cool, way to go!)
American white guys
We've had the floor for at least four hundred years
So maybe I should just shut the fuck up
I'm bored
I don't wanna do that
There's got to be another way (Yes)
For me to help out without standing on the sidelines (Never)
The wait is over
I'm white, and I'm here to save the day
Lord, help me channel Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side (Sandra Bullock)
Healing the world with comedy
Making a literal difference, metaphorically
And yes, most likely, they'll pay me, but I'd do it for free
I am healing the world with comedy
If you wake up in a house that's full of smoke
Don't panic
Call me, and I'll tell you a joke
If you see white men dressed in white cloaks
Don't panic
Call me, and I'll tell you a joke
Oh shit
Should I be joking at a time like this?
If you start to smell burning toast
You're having a stroke or overcooking your toast
If you wake up in a house that's full of smoke
Don't panic
Call me, and I'll tell you a joke
If you see white men dressed in white cloaks
Don't panic
Call me, and I'll tell you a joke
Oh shit
Should I be joking at a time like this?
Somebody help me out, 'cause I don't know
And I want to help to leave this world better than I found it
And I fear that comedy won't help, and the fear is not unfounded
Should I stop trying to be funny?
Should I give away my money? No!
I know what I gotta do
Healing the world with comedy
Making a literal difference, metaphorically
I swore I'd never be back, but now I'm back on my feet
And I'm healing the world with comedy

Bo is amazing because he has very self-aware lyrics, but there's also a very hopeless tone in this song. A way of saying that he knows he's just another white guy comedian, but he still wants to help, and he hopes he's not just another loud American white man stealing attention. But he genuinely wants to be a positive force in the world despite anxiety and depression. He is a very talented man, but everyone knows that. Not only is he talented, but he's needed. He truly does make the world a better place by being in it. If I could hug him, I would (after asking permission). I hope I'm not just another fan when I say that we love you Bo. We are glad you exist. And I hope you keep existing. It's okay not to always be funny. You are a complex human, not a joke machine to put quarters into (although I'm glad you can get paid to do something you like). I hope you're okay, Bo. If you can't be strong, then just survive. I'm trying to do that, too.

I think it’s interesting he put two laugh tracks at the beginning and none for the rest of the song. I think it shows how he wishes the audience would have reacted to his old songs like art is dead. But instead people would only focus on the few jokes and ignore the real meaning awkwardly laughing the whole way through.

This is probably the most honest and relatable comedy song I've ever heard. When you learn about the world, how the world really works, it can be really disheartening. I think most people recognize that this isn't remotely sustainable, and if we don't fix something we're screwed, but at the same time the entrenched powers don't want anything to change since they benefit from the current system and are more than willing to prioritize the current interests of themselves over anything and everything else. With how unbalanced our power system is, how do you go about making positive change in our society if you don't have millions of dollars or connections in high places? If you have to get a job at a giant evil corporation (which, if we're being honest is every large corporation), are you just contributing to the corruption in our system?
I feel like the words "I want to help to leave this world better than I found it, and I feel that comedy won't help, and that fear is not unfounded" speak directly to my soul, just replacing "comedy" with anything. I mean, even if I did give away all my money, or threw away my freedom to disrupt the system through illegal means, what would that actually accomplish? At best, even if I could give all the money I'm expected to earn in my lifetime, about 1.5 million dollars on average, somehow without spending any of it, best I could do is help maybe a hundred families through some really hard times. Now, that's nothing to scoff at, but while we're down here fighting the battles the right is up there winning the war, throwing another thousand families into homelessness. We just can't even begin to fight on the same level that they do without massive organization, and every attempt at organization will invariably be sabotaged. What can we even do besides spreading the word and naively hoping the momentum of public opinion forces change? I don't want to do nothing, to be the "good german" who watches as things get worse without doing anything, but I don't know what that would even be beyond small gestures.

''Should I give away my money? noooooohhhh~''
It sounded incredibly honest.
