Every student deserves to learn in a way that helps them reach their own individual potential. By sharing on her experiences as a former homeschooler, Maia Orejudos illustrates the value of flexibility in learning and the power of emphasizing the YOU in “ed-YOU-cation.” Maia Orejudos is a junior at Valencia High School and a candidate in the International Baccalaureate Program. Along with TEDx, she is active on campus as a violinist in the orchestra and a co-president of the Impact Christian Club. Off campus, she is active as a mentor for elementary-aged students and a member of her church. When she has spare time, Maia enjoys reading historical fiction, experimenting in the kitchen, and spending quality time with family friends, and nature. Her favorite pizza topping is pesto. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
