This saga is a serious hot shit, few times i've experience a world so detailed, so well painted, so full of culture, with such an original and unique mythos around it. Amazing artwork, dense plotline, superb writing, top notch voice acting and overall good gameplay.
I really miss the times when videogames where made to impress, done by a group of talented men and women who wanted to deliver a craft of the finest quality.
If you consider yourself a gamer, you MUST play the entire Kain series, you won't be dissapointed, i promise.

theres a part of the dialogue of Raziel and the Ghost of Moebius on the Blood Omen Era
"I don't think this has anything to do with the Pillars or Kain's failure to sacrifice himself."
the camera does a hard focus on raziel and the fact this track plays in the background gave that phrase a powerful meaning, the moment that Raziel states that he knows about Moebius machinations.

What I love is the slow way this builds from disparate, somber sounds into a militant marching song.
Especially that last little throat-singing note at 2:11. The single voice, like a hermetic monk in a cell, suddenly vanished against pipes, marching drums, and the slow chanting of a more ‘angelic’ sounding choir.
All crescendoing beautifully at 3:12 into the Sarafan March. Orderly, unified and zealous. Before dropping back into silence abruptly.
That sudden dip, I’ve always liked to imagine, represents the order crumbling after Vorador slaughtered the Circle. For a brief moment the Sarafan held Nosgoth in their armored, blood-soaked hands and then it was gone.

One thing I really love about the beginning of this track is the ominous, sinister sound it conveys, before the more militaristic aspects of the theme properly kick in. Consider that, when the game begins and you first explore the stronghold, it is ages after the fall of the Sarafan, and is being used by Moebius's vampire hunters as a base of operations, and thus is long removed from its former glory and repute. Gradually, over the course of the game, little by little, and with varying perspectives, information is gleaned about the past, what occurred, and Raziel's purpose and how he fits into Kain's plan. That's why the ominous part at the beginning of the theme is so fitting for the setting: it's concealing a secret. A massive one, at that. And when that monumental revelation comes at the end of the game, with the climax ultimately coming in the same stronghold, it completely shatters everything the player and Raziel thought they knew to be true. Such a masterfully designed game and series, truly the peak of storytelling in the medium, and with a soundtrack that is 100% in service to that end, and is pretty damn great to boot.
