Its remarkable when you realize that the Shire is JRR's innocence, its his early boyhood wonderment at nature, country life, peace and bliss, that Frodo is very much himself, that the trip to Mordor and back that forever changed him was his experience in the first world war, and from that he wrought an astonishing tale that to this day inspires, captivates and enchants so many fans.

Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didnāt. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
