I just bought a 2500 last week. I was looking at a 3500 but it sold before a made up my mind. The 3500 has a much stiffer ride than the 2500. I hooked it to a 8000 lbs trailer and it really pulled it well. I can’t see needing a 3500 unless you are going to pull excessive weight,0ver 20,0000 lbs.

The payload on Ram 2500’s is such a joke. Those trucks are for bumper pull trailers with small equipment like a mini excavator or skid steer, or even ATV/side by sides. I would however assume that they are the most comfortable 3/4 ton on the market due to the coil springs.
Another thing to keep in mind is that an apples to apples comparison is only about a $400 (can $) difference in price. I had a 37’ bumper pull camper trailer with ~1050lbs hitch weight. I went to my dealership and built a 2022 Ram 2500 Big Horn crew cab short box 4x4 with the 6.4 Hemi. Once it was all completed I asked them to build the IDENTICAL truck in a 3500. Exact same options and it came in just over $400 (can $) more than the 2500. It was a no brainer for me and now I have 4000lbs of payload because my GVWR is 11,000# instead of capped off at 10,000# GVWR. The 2500 would have been ok for my trailer, but for a small price increase, why not.
Payload is always overlooked and I’m so glad it being talked about more and more. Thanks for the video JB! Sending much love from Ontario 🇨🇦

When did Ram increase the GVWR option to 12,300? That sounds like it happened recently. Cuz ya, that Ram 3500 long bed SRW HO Cummins + Aisin (looks like a Laramie?) and 31 gallon tank, it had a payload several hundred higher than I thought it would, especially considering the additional transmission and bed weight.
I'll have to re-weigh my truck because I swear, with just me in it and full fuel and DEF, it weighs less than the difference between my rated payload and the 11,500 GVWR.

There is another way to skin this cat if you’re willing to give up the Cummins… I have a 2500 Laramie crew, short bed with a Hemi and 410 axle and I have just over 3000 pounds of payload so I can legally approach the maximum trailer capacity. Not saying 18,000 pounds of trailer with a normally aspirated gas engine would be fun, but it would at least be legal!
