I can relate; I was in a lower-class income, had a divorced mom w/ a jerk of a boyfriend that I didn't like, and I was an 11 year old boy who was lost in a world of competition and reputation called middle school. Thank goodness I had my AM/FM radio w/ dual cassette that I got for my 11th birthday during the summer so I can listen to songs like Robbie Nevil's "C'est La Vie" telling me--what you stated, "a promise that better times (are) ahead".

I remember this song just getting on rotation back in late 1986. It was Christmas day and I finally got a Thundercats action figure (I was an obsessed Thundercats fan). It was Mumm-Ra and its eyes would light up if you used your red plastic ring which required a AAA battery which were hard to find back then. I also got Prince's new album, "Around the World in a Day" - which was pretty good. My best memory was a few days later after Christmas when I watched the mini-series, "Sins" starring Joan Collins with my grandmother. I was only 11 but I understood most of it. It was interesting. Even though my grandmother was black as well as I, she was very open-minded when it came to music and television (thank you Grandma). Dynasty was her favorite TV show and she liked Joan Collins as an actress. For some reason, hearing this song from Robbie Nevil only brings me back to these 3 events of my childhood. That small time frame of late 1986 - nothing else. How strange.

On this day in 1987 {January 11th} Robbie Nevil's "C'Est La Vie" peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Top 100 chart, the first week it was at #2, the #1 record for that week was "Shake You Down" by Gregory Abbott, and for it's second week at #2, Billy Vera & The Beaters' "At This Moment" held the top spot..
"C'Est La Vie" reached #1 in New Zealand...
Between 1986 and 1991 the Los Angeles native had seven records on the Top 100, two made the Top 10, "Wot's It To Ya" {#10 for 2 weeks in 1987} and the above "C'Est La Vie"...
Robert S. 'Robbie' Nevil celebrated his 61st birthday three months ago on October 2, 2019...
