Gene Wilder is Willy Wonka

Willy Wonka is a fictional character in the 1964 Roald Dahl novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the film adaptations that followed. The book and the 1971 film adaption both vividly depict an unusual Wonka — a feature arising from his creative genius. He annoys the other characters with his antics, though Charlie sees Wonka's behavior as a positive trait.

little known fact - when they hired Wilder for this role, they didn't know whether or not he could sing. They had planned to overdub someone else singing during the scene where he is supposed to sing. During filming this scene he actually sang the song and shocked everyone!

One subtle movement I loved: Charlie was the only one of the children who made sure to keep hold of Grandpa Joe. All the other kids quickly abandoned their parents to indulge themselves, but Charlie alone stayed with his grandfather. That's always seemed special to me, and showed that Charlie was a selfless boy even when faced with such incredible splendor.

I love the scene at 3:16 when Wonka sits down by the candy teacups. You can just see he is proud of the good things he has given to children but you can also see in his eyes a tiredness that only an adult that has been through the hardships of life can truly understand. I think this scene is beautiful to watch when your older because you can identify with Wonkas weariness. You and him have reached an understanding that you couldn't as a child that even when you do things you love life is tiring and there is a time to move on and rest.

They can make 100 more remakes to this movie and I truly believe no one will top Gene's performance as Willy Wonka.

An underrated aspect about this scene is how thrilled the adults are at eating the candy as much as the kids, if not moreso. Seeing uptight adults who have long forgotten the innocence of childhood and projecting their issues onto their maladjusted kids, just dropping the pretense of adulthood for this momentary indulgence is great and the only time I don't despise them throughout the movie.

This song is so beautiful and reminds me of my childhood, it makes me cry everytime I hear it. It took a lot of effort for me to not break down in tears in the cinema when Chalamet sang it when he took Noodle to meet her mum near the end of Wonka. My heart caught fire as soon as he started singing it.

Saw Wonka and felt so much joy once he started singing Imagination while the factory was being made around him. Just like the adults in this scene, I felt like a kid again.
