Surveying his vast domain, Poseidon considers retirement. What if someone else donned the coral crown so he could spend his immortality harmonizing with whales and cozying up to hydrothermal vents? In some of the earliest Greek text, it appears that Hades and Poseidon were the same god at one point, but may have gotten split into two as the stories got passed down over several generations.
