Whilst not being historically accurate in filming, this video gives one a good idea of where, when, what, and how.

Funny how, in every movie, every video clip ever made, drawing a sword is accompanied by that metallic sound as if all those scabbards were ever made of metal. It just makes me laugh.

Duke Wellington said that? Wow. What a revelation. I thought it was Blucher and Wellington who defeated Napoleon. The whole Wellington plug is a bit out of place here. The Vikings weren't anymore brutal than any other adventurers throughout history. The clip is less historical than sensationalist with a lot of fluff.

Some of this documentary footage was filmed in New Zealand…. approx 20,000 Kms from where the Vikings roamed. The supposed Norwegian Fiord shown at 24:05 is actually Milford Sound in New Zealand. The producers weren't too particular about using authentic locations for their documentary.

Lindisfarne were a rescue mission where monks mysteriously had died and the Vikings offered to rescue the valuables. The Catholic Church were plundering normal people for the sake of riches. Vikings helped redistribute the fortunes not to mention helping the holy men becoming closer to their God.... There's always more than one side to a story.

Win win situation for them. If you win you get Booty. If you lose in Battle you might go to Valhalla

The Viking age, provoked by the Christians. After many years of attack against non Christians North of France, and then making it forbidden to trade with non Christians. Finally the Vikings reacted in the same way and for the same reason as the Mongolians did. And that is the main reason they was specially happy when they could attack and destroy any Christian building or establishment.

Trying to equate that behavior to this time in history is ridiculous. This kind of violence is not restricted to vikings.

Sorry to hear that Newfoundland lost provincial status.😅

The Vikings didn't shave their heads. They had long hair (unlike the show ...). Short hair was for thralls (see The Northman for the most authentic Viking looks ever done in film). This depiction makes me question the authenticity of this documentary.

Once again it is not mentioned that the event that sparked the so called "Viking age" was the slaughter of thousands of heathen Saxons and the desecration of their sacred oak Irmunsul by Charlemagne AKA Karel the great and his Frankish Christians....

As far as I know, it was not Erik the Red, who reached the Newfoundland, it was his son Leaf Erikson. Leaf was blown off course by the storm, while returning from the Norvegian King's service to his home in Greenland.
