Congenital dermal melanocytosis (formerly called Mongolian blue spots) are a type of birthmark. The term congenital dermal melanocytosis refers to one or more birthmarks. They are flat blue or blue/grey spots with an irregular shape that commonly appear at birth or soon after.
Mongolian blue spots are flat bluish- to bluish-gray skin markings commonly appearing at birth or shortly thereafter. They appear commonly at the base of the spine, on the buttocks and back and also can appear on the shoulders. Mongolian spots are benign and are not associated with any conditions or illnesses.
On average, only about 10% of Caucasian infants have Mongolian blue spots. Blue spots are found in about 50% of Latinos, and 90% to 100% of Asian and African populations.
Though earlier considered to be benign birthmarks, it has been shown now that Mongolian spots (MS) are often associated with co-existent anomalies like inherited disorders of metabolism, vascular birthmarks and occult spinal dysraphism. Babies with extensive MS should be screened for the same.
Port wine stain birthmarks are the rarest (less than 1 percent of people are born with them) and occur because the capillaries in the skin are wider than they should be. Dr. Kos says these birthmarks do not go away, and in fact, gradually, over the years, they usually darken and thicken.
In any case, the most of the people who have this phenomenon, consider this blue spot to be a good sign and a symbol of the blessing of higher powers. Folks long believed that the slap “for happiness” was made by the divine hand, or someone from great and glorious ancestors did it.

I’m a combo of natives from the Great Lakes and Great Plains. Both sides of my family has had the blue spot. I still don’t buy that the entire continent was populated through the Bering strait but yeah it makes sense that a lot of people used that route, but there is a mountain of dated archaeological evidence that there were relatively advanced societies (they created many different time keeping structures like Michigan Stonehenge) that predate the time period that the Bering Strait theory would be viable.
