In Washington State, in 2001 a voter initiative pushed the annual increase cap down to 1% from 6%, which probably saved us a lot of grief the past few years. It’s pushed schools and services to try putting individual levies on the ballot, but there’s been no appetite for them lately, and a bill to push the cap from 1% to 3% was tabled quietly in February, saying they needed to do a better job of educating voters. It’ll be interesting to see how the Georgia landscape looks a few years down the road with so many moving in, and what cities try to do to get around the cap.
