Turning Out Pt. III: The most well made in music production. Turning Out Pt. II: Probably, the saddest Song they ever made. Turning Out Pt I: My personal favorite. The most relatable song of any AJR song

I still remember that one comment that said turning out pt. 27 will just be Ryan screaming into a mic with a 4 bpm drum beat in the background

TMM is probably the best. I've never been a fan of the Turning Out series, but I was surprised after hearing III for the first time.

I remember listening to the first part when I had a crush on this guy. Then the second one when he broke up with me, lol. Honestly these songs are what i imagine his perspective was, wondering if he liked me back and realizing he actually didn't he just wanted to try a relationship. I like how hopeful the third one is in some degree. It kinda symbolizes how my relationship went after that first dude.

I just realized that this trilogy explains basically all three partners ive had. I was basically begging my first gf to stay and try to make things work. My second partner said I Love You first, and i jumped on it. I wasnt ready for another relationship, but i thought i needed it. It didnt last very long. My current partner makes me feel so happy, and im the happiest ive ever been. Still, i cant help but wonder if im meant to end up with him. But hey, im trying to live in the moment

I feel like the first one is thinking you have a crush on someone but not completely sure. You don't know if it's platonic or romantic attraction. You decide that you should give romance a chance, but you don't feel like what everybody else feels. There are no butterflies, no sparks. It's not like Disney love. You still want to be around this person. You feel like everybody else is getting what you are not. People are getting in relationships and you're somehow falling behind. You want to fall in love, but you can't. It seems so easy for everybody else, but it's impossible for you and you're trying to figure out what is wrong with you. The second one feels like admitting to yourself that you are aromantic, but you're still in a romantic relationship. You were never in love. You just wanted a connection. You tell them that you can't love them in that way. You like the idea of loving them. They break it off with you because they can't handle the fact that you can't do it. It is just impossible. You never wanted to hurt them, but you can't change yourself, and you know if you continue, it will only hurt more. They're not in your life anymore. You never wanted that to happen. You just wanted to stay as friends, but now they're not there. The third one feels like pushing down you're feelings. You saw how much you're true self hurt someone else, and don't want that to happen again. You want to be wanted. You can't love anyone in that way. You can't bring yourself to have a deeper connection with anyone. You're trying to do what you're supposed to do. You want a person to love, but you can't love in the right way. You become dependent on this person. You feel like you are selfish because you don't want it to turn out how it did last time. You feel like you're doing it wrong and will hurt more people. Love never felt like a big thing. It felt like something you had to do, but it didn't turn out like how it was supposed to. I know this is not how it was meant, and maybe I'm just projecting because I'm aroace, but it feels like this is more of an anti-love story than a love story. There was never love, just an attempt at love. Many aromantic/asexual people feel like they are broken and just need to try harder, and I feel like these songs capture it perfectly.

10:49 there's a reference to Turning Out Pt. ii, the little voice in the background. Maybe it's obvious, but I didn't see anyone else say anything about it, so I thought I'd point it out.

Y'know it only just occurred to me, but I feel like the last lines of pt 3 (at about 11:11) kinda feels like the aftermath of finding that perfect partner, which is parenthood. And adult Ryan basically explaining to his literal kid what love's gonna feel like. Ifk, maybe I'm wrong but I like the concept. Or better yet, his youngwr self, can't believe I just thought of that lol

The interview/podcast of the Zach Sang Show with AJR perfectly describes what the inspiration of the Turning Out Trilogy is about! (The song/s was/were mostly about Ryan)
