Hi everyone! In this video we are finally covering some basic glottal behavior. In this video we discuss something commonly referred to as "mixed" voice but under the framework of "thick" and "thin". This is controlled primarily by vocal fold mass and it has significant effects for gender implication.

This video covers basic information, ear training, how to use, 8 exercises to find thinness, and extra theory information. This video is based on the free document provided in the description.

8 Basic Approaches for Thickness Reduction:
1. Pitch Slides for Thinness
2. Thick - Thin Pop Test
3. Pure Mimicry
4. Physical Compression of the Head and Neck
5. Onset and Offset Based Approaches
6. Behavioral Triggers
7. SOVTe for Thinness
8. Voiceless Thick & Thin

The exercises provided are different approaches to try and help student's discover and find their "thinner" voice quality. Work to isolate the "thick" and "thin" sound quality. Once you manage to find thinness, count to ten, read a paragraph, or speak out loud to yourself to try an apply the thinness to speech.

While vocal fold mass is rooted in physiology from hormones and genetics, users can take control of the voice and behaviorally manipulate the vocal fold mass across a great spectrum of options. Gaining control over vocal fold mass is a critical control for vocal freedom. Those who gain expertise in the realm of thickening and thinning, thereby gain the ability to fluidly manipulate a fundamental sexually dimorphic element of voice.

z

As a Speech Pathologist, she REALLY knows what she's talking about, and I utilize her videos to facilitate sessions! They are actually working. Like beyond my expectations. You are exceptional!

I need to just get over my anxiety of practicing my voice around my family already, despite being accepting I'm really self conscious.

My boyfriend just told me when we first met I sounded like a boy. I’ve been getting told I sound like a boy for years by many people. I’ve tried to change my voice for years and nothing works. What he said pushed me to a limit. He said, “I had to convince myself I was talking to a girl not a dude when we first met” . I cried about my voice for the first time in years because of my own partner.

I love the idea of viewing this as the mass of the vocal folds as opposed to head/chest voice. My brain really appreciates knowing the mechanics of the actual anatomy.

I recently learned the term, "Conceptual learner". They used it to describe the way that I never feel like I understand things until I understand them very, very thoroughly. It's from that perspective that I want to express my deepest thanks for your thoroughness in explaining these concepts, from the spectrogram to the anatomy. Every video you've released has helped me make massive leaps toward my goal voice in a way that browsing message boards and learning from other creators very rarely does.
