Built in 1964 and was originally a Howard Johnson, it became known as the Pittsburgh North Motor Lodge in 1985/86.

In 2012, the owner of the former motel got the OK to begin renovating the site.

But in later years, he asked the township to remove his name off the property and agree to have it demolished in return of having the ordinance violations put against him, removed, despite damages to the roof of the building, theft of copper pipes, graffiti and other damage caused by vandals as the township defined the former motel, as “uninhabitable.”

2024 Update: NOW DEMOLISHED.

Brought back some memories for me. I managed hotels for Howard Johnson’s Corporate back in the 80’s. So much of what is still in there is HJ equipment…amazing.

So interesting. You can tell by the various bedspreads that the place was barely hanging on for a long time. It actually seems like rooms were decommissioned in phases, hence the various tv models, bedding, and even smaller details like the era of ice buckets and light fixtures (some of the light fixtures being Howard Johnson’s era). Usually the rooms closer to the main office stay in use. I bet some of those rooms that stored specific items like the room with the chairs was decommissioned prior to the entire property closing. I can’t imagine they would’ve gone to the trouble of organizing storage after the entire property closed. I’m just guessing though.

It's crazy how clean some of the rooms were despite the fact that there were people in there vandalizing stuff.. I wonder how nice it looked while it was being used

This has been torn down within the last 10 days. I live 5 minutes away. A damn shame it wasn't saved.

Thanks so much for exploring this place. Always wondered what it looked like on the inside. I also remember when it was a Chinese restaurant at one time. Yinz make great videos!

A caretaker for the property let me and my friends explore once. It’s very vintage. The pool in the back is epic. I do think they try and patrol it, but clearly people still break in. I wonder why they don’t just demolish.

I am shocked about how much is left. Dumpster Divers would have hit the jackpot. We tossed a gross mattress and a guy ripped it open to steal the springs....Then wrote us a thank you note.
