it’s really creepy when you realise that her singing was not only to seduce the sailors but also was a call for her sisters to come and feast

can we just take a moment and give credit to the old guy, he wasnt falling for none of their shit, he hit one in the face with the paddle and stabbed another in the air, that man is a legend

The way mermaids go from calmness, beauty and seducing to aggressiveness and rage in a matter of seconds is pretty cool

This scene caught me off guard, obviously the actress is stunning but something about how she just suddenly appeared on the side of the boat, and the curious, predatory stare she was giving the pirates was truly chilling

I love their depiction of mermaids as vicious and predatory; not merely luring sailors to their death, but actually attacking them in packs, and clearly being very strong. And I love that they have huge, hefty tails — at least two or three times as long as their torsos, and muscular to boot — that help us believe that they can swim that fast and leap out of the water like that. And lastly, I like that while they do distract the men by singing, it doesn't seem like their song is magically bewitching; they literally get you just by being pretty and acting sweet so that you think they're harmless and let them surround you.

That mermaid casting seems so on point. There is a look to her that is both mesmerizing yet disturbed and off

This scene is honestly terrifying. Being half asleep in the middle of the night. Then a beautiful creature emitting light is just there at the end of your boat, not breaking eye contact, and having a steady smile. If you look into the history that they are demons in real life... man this scene is just amazing scary. It gives me the chills every time it pans in to her for the first time just there

This is the coolest interpretation of mermaids. They’re just killer sharks with beautiful bodies and voices.

For your all information, according to the POTC lore, Mermaids and Sirens are distinct species : the creatures in this movie are indeed Mermaids. They are actually working for the Sirens, who offer them protection in exchange of doing the dirty work for them by luring sailors to their "watery graves" (in order to eat them). The Sirens themselves are submitted to Davy Jones : so, contrary to legends, they play a passive role and are monstrous looking watery witches who also enslave sea monsters and other merfolks to do their bidding. But Mermaids and Sirens have some common abilities, such as the "Siren Song". You're welcome.

Imagine you're at the bar with a sailor in 1718 and he's describing his journey, hallucinations of mermaids and krakens. These movies are an excellent depiction of how wild and mystical people thought the seas were back then

This movie wasn't the best of the series, but they got the mermaids spot on! The way they look and act really sells the scene. Plus, those tails are mesmerizing.
