The fact that Alyssa being drenched and alive could symbolize the idea of James’s mom swimming back to the surface and not dying from suicide (and abandoning him) is such a powerful parallel, making his reaction even more heartbreaking.

The way James went from thinking he was a phsycopath to now crying whenever he gets the tiniest bit emotional hits me in all the feels.

I think what really got him was he didnt want another person he loved by drowning themselves. I think she really was going to until she remembered what happened to his mom and she changed her mind. I cried watching season 2 because he really had such a change of character it was unreal. You can see here how much he loves her because he went after her.

He got shot, his dad died, the girl he loves is married to some other guy, and now he think she’s gonna commit suicide. Made worst by the fact that his mom also committed suicide. Oh and he also was almost just murdered.
