I also followed Seth F.’s advice on ditching the straight shank hooks after disappointing performance.
I use ringed superline hooks and almost always get the hook in the heavy side plate of the jaw, hook is easy to get out and the fish heals quickly.

I'm so glad you said that about the hooks your using. I tried the straight shank with the snell knot and hated it also. Especially during the spawn.I only throw plastics maybe 10%0of the time now that you got me addicted to Swimbaits. Lol

I’ve never really had any issues with straight shank flippin hooks but I can never seem to get a good hookset with offset round bend hooks. EWGs are best if you slightly bend em out

What knot do you use to join the fluorocarbon to the braid? I miss the James River. Awesome striper fishery. Along with blue crabs you can sometimes find bass that key in on American eels. The striper love them too. Good luck bro.
